locked chest in ff7

i dont know if this is known by alot of people but im playing through ff7 and i found this house in kalm that has a chest on the 2nd floor that looks like part of the pre-rendered background rather than the normal chests that stand out and when you examine it, it says "locked, cant open it". is there anything more to this? the specific house is the with the old guy in the chair and the little closet that has a dog that comes out when you open it, the 2nd house in the northren section i think.

Isn't that the place where you can get one of Vincent's gun from? For some reason, that rings a bell.

thats the house thats to the right of the one im talking about, the last in the set of 3 houses that are at the northren most part of kalm, the house im talking about is the middle one, the 2nd. the chest is on the 2nd floor but it isnt a regular chest, its part of the background. ive never come across this before, but i do remember finding something similar in the town mideel, a hidden key in one of the cracks in the wooden platforms outside that you could pick up if you search the right spot. there was a locked door in one of the houses there and using the key would get you a cursed ring. this key was not something you could see on the screen, you would have to go around mashing the search button until you find it.

im thinking this locked chest has a key to it hidden somewhere in the game similar to the one that goes to the locked door in mideel but im not sure, it has to though, why else would they add text that says "locked. cant open it" to a chest like that? there are other pre-rendered backgrounds in the game that have the same chest design in them but none of them have dialoge that pops up if you search them, why this one chest in particular? its got to lead to something. i know few people that know about the cursed ring you can get in mideel so it wouldnt surprise me if this is something that hasnt really been discovered yet, as i found the key to the door by pure chance, i was just fooling around when i came across the key.

i have a shot, but its 800x600 in res. how do i put it up here considering the size?

edit- nm here, i had to change the size around, sry if the quality sucks.

again if you want to see it first hand, its in the 2nd floor of the middle house in the 3-set cluster at the northren most part of kalm.

This is the info that I got from this faq: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/f...tasy_vii_p.txt

"Go in the middle house now, next to this one. Go upstairs and check the cabinet to find another Ether. The locked chest here serves no purpose at all, as it was used for a quest that was cut out of the game."

Didn't cross-check it, though. You might want to do that.

I have tried to find the meaning of this chest being locked for almost ten years but u convinced me Boltzmann

The locked chest here serves no purpose at all, as it was used for a quest that was cut out of the game.

Guess it makes sense

FF7 had a lot of things that didn't have no purpose, like the soldier items, I never knew what to do with it.

Who knows... everything that's useless could have been part of a single quest. But yeah, the toy soldiers are yet another useless thing.

Silly Cid... that's not what they mean by 1/35; it's 1/35 scale of a real life soldier.

Soldiers useless? I had always heard you could let them fight for you on mount condor. I believe you don't have to buy soldiers if you have a certain amount of the 1/35ths.

I think I got more than 1 toy soldier.
But anyways, hopefully *FF7 on PS3 will have this quest completed.

*Expect a long argument out of this.

It's more fan hoping than anything else.
