EDIT: Sega didn't announce it officially, Dreamcast-Scene is assuming via Dreamcast-Scene It is nearly certain that Sega of Japan plans to discontinue production of GD-ROM media in February, 2007. This media is used almost exclusively by the Sega Dreamcast home console, and the NAOMI arcade system. By stopping production, future official games (licensed by Sega) on the Dreamcast or NAOMI will not be possible. (The NAOMI is important, because games such as Ikaruga, Border Down, Puyo Puyo Fever, and nearly all official import DC games from 2004-2007 originated on NAOMI.) If GD-ROM production is discontinued, this means: No more NAOMI arcade games No more NAOMI ports to Dreamcast (Recent NAOMI ports include Under Defeat and Radirgy) Trigger Heart Exelica (February 2007) and Karous (March 2007) will unexpectedly be the final official Dreamcast games. This doesn't need to happen, as developers are fond of the NAOMI for its relative low cost, ease of production and accessibility, and straightforward ports to the Dreamcast home console. Warashi returned to the scroll shooting genre with Trigger Heart Exelica on NAOMI, and Milestone would likely gladly continue to produce further games following Karous on the system as well. Sega themselves have recently presented Dynamite Deka EX running on NAOMI. If GD-ROM production continues, there is a much greater chance that we'll see a home console port of this game on DC within a year. Please speak up now, and help us to ensure the continuation of GD-ROM production. In order to show your opposition for the ceasing of production of GD-ROM media, please click on the image below, save and print, sign and date it, and then mail it to Sega of Japan, located at the following address: Sega of Japan 1-2-12 Haneda Ohta-ku, Tokyo, 144-8531 Japan Because of the urgency of this matter, we, as Dreamcast-Scene, do not have time to compile collected signatures and send them in a large package as usual. These letters will need to be sent straight to the source. If you bring the sealed and addressed envelope to your local post office, they will be able to affix the exact amount of postage. Click image to enlarge ![]() Time is of the essence. Please do this as soon as you can. Thank you. - Dreamcast-Scene.com, and Dreamcast fans everywhere. What do we care? If Sega wants to continue Dreamcast at some point, they'll start making them again. Besides, hope is slim anyways because... it's been gone for six years now, and so what if it came back only in Japan? No new Sonic games were released.

I say we start a petition to get rid of Sony, that'll eliminate most competition towards Sega.

I agree with Chrono. Unless they plan to completely bring it back, a petition to save a GD-Rom is stupid.

It's not the GD-Rom that kept the DC alive, it's the community. As long as there's an active DC community there will still be new and interesting releases for the DC, being it in the form of an commercial release or a freeware production. So, maybe no official releases anymore - with all due respect, what developers are still backing the DC? Milestone created a few fun titles but they're not exactly the best team out there, and the same goes for Warashi (mahjongg games mostly). G-Rev and Treasure have gone the way of the 360.... It's very unlikely Sega will release Dynamite Deka EX on DC either. It'll probably be ported to PSP instead =P Really, it's the community that keeps the DC alive, not the GD-Rom or 2 small commercial Japanese developers.

Anyway, there are still developers for Dreamcast because it's more cheap to produce on this console than any other from the sixth generation. Plus when an official game is released, it sells very very good

It's in JKKDARK's nature to support Sega. He's the resident Sega fanboy. That's why he's winning in the fanboy awards.

Even I have a Sony 3.5" Diskette drive, oh and a crappy phone, and a nice camera It's hard getting around the quality of some of their products.

The only way you could possibly know that you are a true fanboy is by trying stuff from other competitors. At the end of the day if you still go back to what you're supposed to be a fanboy of, then you're a true fanboy.

You really are psychotic, aren't you, Nevermore? How your ass wasn't banned in '03, I'll never know.

Right, serious matter. Wait... Nevermore is! He started it! I want my bottle! Wah-wah! Anyways, I think if Sega officially announces they're ending GD-ROM production, then worry. If not, take a chill, kill Biolizard on SA2, watch the SA2 cutscenes and get shocked still. I almost have more fun looking at 'Cast titles than playing with my GameCube... that's not exactly saying much, but it is saying... play the cool DC games. Space Channel 5, Samba, Sonic Shuffle (you know it's good...), relax and play 'em. Dreamcast was an innovation because it's games had insane replay value.

Don't worry, Nevermore's just a our regular spambot, it's a hit and miss seriously ![]() Anyway, I think all good things have to end one day. I mean, I really love Under Defeat, but I'll be hard pressed getting another shooter. Just look at Karous, with all respect but if it isn't going to be any different than Radirgy, it's almost becoming 'shovelware' for a starving market. Yeah, I sound like a heretic, and I doubt any would expect it from this fanboy, but it's just the way I see things. I still have hope for Trigger Heart though, because it tries something new in terms of gameplay. And as long as companies want to support the DC, there will be a way, just look at GOATstore and the independent releases. Melty Blood will be lovely, and the only game I would get with the exception of Senko no Ronde, because both those games give you something new. In short: I just fail to see what a difference a few hundred of these letters will make. Besides, wasn't there something on the Under Defeat page on Sega.co.jp that said it would be the last GDrom release as well?
