Why does everyone LOVE FFVII?

Graphics: *Fart.*
Gameplay: *Loud, studdering fart.*
Sound was the one thing FFVII excelled in. This isn't a rant, but a discussion. I don't like the game, and even Zelda 64's story is better.

Because of Tifa's Boobs.

Seriously, I don't know how you expect a good discussion by the way of your post.

Personally other than FFX, FFVII is the only good console RPG I have played, then again I am not really into console RPGs.

because its a damn good game, its not considered one of the greatest games of all time for nothing. im not fanboy about it, i personally like ff6 more, so VII takes 2nd place for me. but if you do a little research RPG storyline-wise you could see that it was the first ff (and every other RPG)that didnt do that whole midieval thing with casltes and **** that pretty much every RPG back then had. why do people like it so much? it was a breath of fresh air. after 6 installments of the FF series, they finally made one, and an RPG for that matter, that actually broke out of the storyline sterotype of "save the crystals and defeat the bad guy that wants to erase the world from existance" the entire game was a milestone for the RPG genre. i dont see how you are missing this point, if your just getting into the RPG genre then i might be able to see why your saying that but if you have played alot of RPGs before, like i have, you can easily tell that ff7 was the game responsible for a total shift in how RPGs were made. after 7 came out rpgs started to follow its lead and were made to be actually more than just a game. i consider 6, 7 and 8 to be on the same level as any great film or book, rpgs before that were not as captivating, they just didnt have that cinimatic feel, 7 broke that trend and set a new standard and thats why its considered so great. things that dont follow a trend and instead create ones are the ones that get more attention and are more succesful.

it provided deep characters that had more realistic personalities and qualitys to them. before ff 6 and 7 you could almost say that charaters were a mere plot device. look at the first 3 installments of the series, the characters you play as were just numbers, they had no personality or uniqueness to them whatsoever, they didnt even have names.

btw dont complain about graphics of a game that came out 10 years ago, it was a first of its kind and back then no other game could compeate with the graphics. nowadays, sure, compared to games now the graphics are very dated looking but its not really a fair fight by doing that. i dont know if you are doing that or not but if you are pitting ff7 against a game that was made at least a year or two after it came out then its pretty obvious which game would win. as far a zelda goes, dont get me wrong, link to the past and the two tthat came out on the n64 are excellent games, but they still follow that rpg sterotype of the story.

i have to agree with you on the sound, 7 isnt my favorite, but it has a damn good soundtrack. its not something i could expect back then, as you dont really think people would go to such lengths to create a soundtrack like that for a videogame of all things.

Seems like they are updating that theme on the Fabula Nova Critallys.

oh. ive lost intrest in following the series like i used to mainly because FF-X2 made me very weary about the direction the series is going to. X was good but FF-X2 was retarded.

I played Final Fantasy VII to about the end of the first CD, but I accidentally wiped my memory card and haven't restarted playing the game.
It has some good points, but judging it 10 years after it was made is silly...

I preferred Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana and still think they have better storylines and music, ditto with XenoGears...

Why? Because it's a damn good game. It's not perfect by far, and I think it's dumbed down as well, especially when compared to something as complex like Xenogears.

The thing is, this is the game that popularized RPGs in the western world, there's no denying it had a large influence on gaming history. The whole story and gameplay has enough depth to keep you going and will keep things interesting. If you're not into jRPGs you'll never like it though.

quit you dayjob, drop out of school, lock yourself in your room and finish it man you have to experience the whole game at least once before you die.

yeah i agree, there are a few parts in the game i would have changed if i was in control of it. i would have pushed the whole shinra-vs the planet thing more than it was. after you leave midgar, the focus on shinra lessens and it makes them seem not as bad as they are made out to be in the beginning. in the end, they almost are being shown as good guys, they attempt to stop the meteor, destroy the craters protective sheild, but they are quickly brought back as bad guys when they try to execute tifa and stuff. i just feel that they could have used shinra more in the storyline or at the very least be more defined as either good guys or bad. seeing them kill off biggs, wedge and jesse, i started to hate them, but after you leave midgar, the game shifts towards sephiroth.

i also wish they would have made more industrial areas similar to midgar as i thought it was really neat to have something like that rather than the sterotypical rpg areas. midgars design is what made me notice the difference of style when i first played it. its almost like square had a hard time deciding to do a more industrial style game with high technology(submarine, trains, rockets, or stick with some of the rpg stuff we are used to (knights, magic, castles and so forth. however there was a good mix of some of that still in the game so it seems they took the middle road on that issue, ff6 seemed to do this too. ff8 is obviously geared more towards a technological/sci-fi atmosphere.

Well, I'm not an RPG hater, in fact, I spent the last four hours playing Adventure Quest, but I don't like FF... random battles, stupid characters, ugly overworlds, bad controls. I like, say Chrono, where you can see the battles ahead of you, and the characters meet in a cool way.

BTW, which Zelda were you referring to? There were two of 'em, Zelda: OoT, and MM
