Help!

I just bought Total Overdose the other day and installed it fine but everytime I go to load it up a message comes up reading:

Emulator detected
Please deactivate virtual drive
and emulation software

What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Please help

I think it's copy protection pointing at a DVD emulator being detected. Do you have any virtual dvd drives installed? Or software like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%?

Hopefully it can be fixed by disabling those drives, without having to uninstall the software. Otherwise, it might be handy to find a patch to the game, we can't give you the link though, because such things are a tad grey I think.

Certain software allows you to 'fake' a dvd drive.

It is noticable when you go to 'my computer' and see more dvd drives than you physically have installed in your PC. These virtual DVD drives, as they are usually called, allow you to load up an dumped image of a cd or game from your harddrive, so that it acts as if you were having a real cd in a real dvd drive.

The reason why certain copy protections do not like those virtual drives is because it also allows you to mount downloaded images. So they will tell you to get rid of you virtual drives before you can play the game.

About the patches: Usually patches and cracks appear on the internet, which are a single file most of the times, that replaces another file that comes with the game. Usually this will disable the copy protection in one way or another, so it won't ask you to disable those virtual drives.

However, because of those patches being made from the copyrighted one that came with the game, it is technically illegal to have them for download. And that's why members here aren't allowed to link you to one, even when you do have a legit copy of the game. Then again, www.google.com is your friend

I'm not really familiar with most copy protections in detail either, so perhaps someone else here can help you further, or correct me whereever I might be wrong.

According to this site it's protected by Securom 7.0 btw.

Basicly he asked: Do you have virtual drives on your computer?
He said: The game don't like virtual drives
He mentioned: You can look for a workaround for it but don't ask for it here

So the game hates your computer and thinks that you have a virtual drive installed. It's funny that some copyprotection schemes sometimes denies a ligitimate user because the drive is not compatible or it hates the paticular CD/DVD drive.

Possibly Microsoft's virtual drive ? or Google's ?
Even debuggers triggger that.

Well there's worse. At least securom isnt as nazi as Starforce, wich REBOOTS your computer if it finds suspicious behaviour (????) from user. Instant loss of all opened documents, and not even offered opportunity to backup before.

Keith11, try to show us a pic of your "My Computer" folder.
Maybe we can tell you which is your virtual drive.

The question now is, do you see 2 cd/dvd drives in your pc case.

If not, then the drive that says DVD may be the image drive that we are talking about.

Also try the link that Shadow_Cast gave you.

I checked it and it could possibly solve your problem.

This is the thread that you should read.

It says a solution to your problem, but may require some time.

That's really bad what customers have to go trough with those anti piracy softwares.
