The Old School Challenge
Mwahahaha! This contest should only be attempted by those who are truely from the School of Old. Basically it's a "Name That Game" game using songs from times long gone. I post songs, you tell me the game, simple as that.
![]() I thought I'd start with a fairly easy one to start off with: http://www.rpgdesign.com/01.mp3 And then a more intermediate one: http://www.rpgdesign.com/02.mp3 And you'll never get this: ![]() http://www.rpgdesign.com/03.mp3 Happy guessing. I've got a lot more where that came from, so if someone finds the answers, then there will be a lot more questions.

the second is outrun, splash wave, atari ST version, which is the same as the MSX tune, only higher pitched.
Everyting seems to be from ST.... I don't know the first song, third seems vaguely familiar, but ..nah, dunno. All the games use the AY/YM soundchip, which I know well enough to remember in itself (it's in the MSX, y'know). |

alright. Let's make this not too easy, here's a few of my own.
http://www.samor.nl/x.mp3 http://www.samor.nl/y.mp3 http://www.samor.nl/z.mp3 Notes: Just for fun, I took a few different systems (but they're multiplatform games as well, allthough I do not know if song z is specific for just that version). Hint for song Y: if you do not recognize it at first, you still might later on. Last edited by Samor; June 12th, 2006 at 23:11. |

The Accolade games were more common on pc, I think? That was either beeper or adlib sound, quite different too.... Last edited by Samor; June 12th, 2006 at 23:46. |

![]() by Gremlin/Magnetic Fields, also released on Amiga with superior music ![]() The same guys (MF) later made RAC Rally Championship and International Rally Championship. The latter using a system similar to Lotus III's recs system (generating random car tracks). And, you should've recorded the PC speaker version

Okay got one for you myself, wasn't sure on the timing with regards to the loop, so after ripping it from the game, I just converted it to a 1 minute sample
![]() All this music reminds me I have a KSS convertor to try out ...though I won't be posting MSX2 music here, Samor would have them answered in a split second ![]() http://www.ckemu.com/woot.mp3

And leave the posting of difficult to guess MSX music to me ![]() Though there are some that I think are just mean, that I prolly won't do ![]() ....and I don't know every MSX tune in the world myself either... but with Konami on the MSX you'll have a hard time finding a tune I don't know (not saying it isn't possible )

![]() As for woot.mp3, the clue there would be it's SNES

Well, I am off to bed in this glorious (erfff) 28C heat, at 2:30am, so I'll let ya know, and perhaps you can torture people via the ol' MSX1/2.
Soul Blazer - Master (that chamber where the voice from aboce tells you your quest).

It's also too hot to sleep here...
I'm gonna give a few hints on x and y I posted earlier. X - http://www.samor.nl/x.mp3 - the company was already named before, and it was not Hewson or Konami. The game is on MSX and C64 (prolly Spectrum as well). Also, remember that cartoon from the 80's. Y - http://www.samor.nl/y.mp3 - No dice? The first part of the song is kinda misleading, unless you were good at the game. Listen to the second half as well... try beatboxing on it, and get rid of those dreams and illusions! This game was on Amiga, PC, SNES, and even GameBoy. Last edited by Samor; June 13th, 2006 at 01:49. |
