The Settlers II: Veni, Vidi, Vici (A Remake of the Original)

If your a really big fan im sure you know this already since it is quite old news, but i thought i should put this here anyway.

If you have played all of the Settlers games im sure you'll agree that Settlers II is the best one. The game was released 10 years ago and i still play it from time to time.

What you might not know is that a remake is beeing made, the sad news is, its planned to be released only in Germany and its not even known if its gonna be in English language.

There has been lots of requests and polls to see if ppl can get BlueByte to release it in English as well but no responce yet was given, and gamers lost something like this already with the Settlers IV addon that got released only in German.

However today a trailer was released for the game, and since the trailer is in English there might still be hope

Trailer: http://trailers.gametrailers.com/gt_...tlers2_eng.wmv

Offical Website (in German): http://diesiedler2.de.ubi.com/index.php

If you never heard of the game then i highly recommend that you play it right away, and you can do it for free since its abandonware now

Looking at the end of the trailer i'll say the missions are the same (All thought it probably has new ones as well, and maybe an map editor xD) That portal exists right in the first mission of the Settlers 2.

I just hope they bring multiplayer to the game, playing splitscreen isnt alot of fun (but hey! at least it had that)

Abandonware is not legal.
Pull the link before mods see it.

That links to abandonia, and it does not offer free downloads of illegal abandonware.

abandonware is NOT illegal, because it is games whose authors have said is ok to put up for download or released for free themselves....

Sorry guys, I just hád to do that

Let's see how effective those German classes were. Can't wait for this one, THIS is how Settlers is supposed to be. But I guess it will get the 'kiddy' label slapped onto it by the mainstream gamers.

Yeah, it makes my head spin everytime i go downtown, lots of pidgeons swarming around the marketplace! I constantly get the "geez what now?" feeling

oh yeah, by the way, how the crud do you get settlers 2 to work properly in windows xp? (EXTREME slowdowns using windows xp, unable to get linux on the proper machine because of hardware and the laptop directly sucks... and "signal out of range" when using compatability modus)

It turns me mad, hearing the lowely old midi-quality bird song in the background but no image!

Works fine here darth. It has slowdowns if u use Dosbox but u dont need it, game runs fine without it. If you have a problem with not beeing able to use 800*600 or 1024 resolution, theres a VGA fix for it.

That game is sweet, in multiplayer those little small guys used to annoy me to no end though. Come on Win, Come on Win, Come on win

well... abandondware is not exactly considered legal it's more of a gray zone. I think that it's the same as posting links to old roms for companies that does not exist anymore which is not allowed here as far as I know.

There is no problem. You can't download it through this link since it's ESA protected.

Yeah, abandonia is a totaly legal site, and untill a couple of months ago you could have downloaded S2, wich makes since you can't now becouse of the remake. Bluebyte probably bought back the rights again.

And where do i find that? i tried all the crappy compatability options with no luck... at all... I can hear the game playing in the background, but no music or image (except for the stupid box thing saying "signal out of range")

Yep its the VGA problem then

There ya go: http://www.jonsguides.com/dosgames/files/winxpfix.exe

Should fix you problem, as for music, try using General MIDI (Roland... bla bla)

That usually works for most cards.
