You may not be able to sell used PS3 games!

Quote:
High street games shops have been told by Sony that there will be no PS3 pre-owned sections in their stores as it will be illegal for customers to sell any next-gen PlayStation games that they've bought, retail sources have revealed to GamesRadar.

It seems that Sony is planning to adopt a licensing system that will mean gamers won't own the PS3 titles that they've paid money for. Instead, they will only be purchasing the licence to play the game and that the software itself will still be Sony property - meaning that the disc won't be the customer's to sell.

This is just a big "WTF!" i heard bout this before but it i thoguht it a joke or somthing. What the hell are we paying for? And what the hell they mean the own the damn game? They don't create all the games. Only because it's runs on the system dosent mean they own all the discs for f***'s sake. Can this work? Is what they want to do is actually legal ?

PS: damn. This is happending in Japan already, right? I heard they can't trade thier games in...

You beat me to posting this.
Then why are we buying a $600 console to rent a game for $60 which Sony can easily say you can't play it?

Ok, I'm not buying a PS3...Ever...

I can't believe this will be acceptable, hell I thought Microsoft or Nintendo might pull such as ****ty move, and I bet they will after Sony succeeds with this nonsense...I can't believe on top of paying a ridiculous amount of money to buy a system, that gamers will be forced to pay full price for all of their games, and I'll bet, won't be able to rent them either, after all if they'll only run on one system...

I guess this will be the beginning of the end of me purchasing consoles. I like being able to rent games, to buy used games, and when that's no long possible, **** the gaming companies, I can just enjoy emulation and the systems/consoles I own...Unlike a majority of gamers, I'm not going to bend over and take this **** lying down, I'll just stop buying consoles that support such anal practices...But I know, most gamers will shrug and accept this new way of ripping off customers...

Isn't this the same "rumor" that was spread last year that Sony denied it?

They have a patent for this kind of lincese but already said they wont use it.

In my opinion that website is not credible. I'm betting this technology only applyies to games you download from the online service. Like how you do with itunes and other music service. Or those online DVD rentals.

Besides it's pretty much against the law if a company won't let you sell something you don't want anymore.

I was right, there was a rumor like this last year:

http://forums.ngemu.com/game-discuss...ps3-games.html

And Sony quickly responded saying it was false:

http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/15/so...n-3-drm-rumor/

Man all these rumors agaisnt the PS3, "unnamed MS sources" saying PS3 games were running on 360, consoles not existing at E3, etc...
Makes me wonder... is this fear?

Yup. This seems very plausible for me.

not going to happen, to many rental stores that wouldn't be able to rent (If the game supposedly wouldn't work on a second console)

Anyways Sony isn't that stupid, they know there would be a lot of flack over something like that

Wtf? And I thought Microsoft was messed up! Well, normally PSP would be better than the stupid 360, but now I'm like it more. You're paying 60 freaking dollars for nothing!

Edit; Oh, wait. Just saw that it was false. xD

These rumors are actuaily good for the consumer, it forces companies to be truthful and prehaps block things like this for fear of bad prelaunch PR

im pretty certain everyone hates the market leader but sometimes things like this are just out of hand...especially when ppl resurrect old rumors just for the sake of doing so
