Appleseed to PS2

The latest issue of Famitsu is home to first details on a PlayStation 2 adaptation of Appleseed, the 2004 anime CG hit. Sega will publish the tentatively titled Appleseed, which is being developed by Dream Factory, the makers of such titles as Tobal and The Bouncer.


For the videogame adaptation, Dream Factory is developing an action title that follows the movie's storyline. You play as Deunan and Briareos, the two leads from the film. Deunan is a fast female soldier who uses fire attacks, but for the heavy duty work, you'll want to rely on Briareos, a cyborg soldier. When moving around as Deunan, you can also board a Landmate mech for added speed and power.
The film's staff is helping out with the project. In addition to creating an animated opening movie, the staff is creating new enemies and areas exclusively for the game.

The announcement of the Appleseed PS2 adaptation has been timed to coincide with the announcement of Appleseed Saga Ex Machina, a new film set in the Appleseed world and being produced by John Woo. The PS2 title will have some undisclosed connections to the film.

Importers can look forward to the PS2 adaptation in September. The new movie is set for release in 2007.

I am actually glad it is on PS2 because I know I won't be buying a PS3 in the first few years it is released. This is kind of cool though, I liked to film too.
