Because nobody runs at 640x480 anymore.
I dug up my copy of FF8PC and decided to give it a go again. After realizing that it looked ugly and anti-aliasing makes it look like complete ass, I started to wonder if there was some sort of tweak I can download that will make it run at higher resolutions. I know one's out there for FF7, so why not 8? I tried looking on qhimm, but I'm afraid that's all I know where to look. -thanks. Last edited by Mako Eyes; May 13th, 2006 at 04:44.. |

i don't even know where to find one for ff7. I tried googling for a ff8 resolution changer and resolution tool but found none. But it shouldn't be too hard to make for someone skilled, it's just to change which resolution the game is set to use *goes googlin for ff7 resolution changer* |

The thing is if they change the resolution, they will also have to deal with stretching the prerendered backgrounds and, well, make them more ugly. Anyway, I don't think a resolution patch for FF8 exists yet, but I could be wrong.

http://qhimm.com/ They have all kinds of patches and fixes, and if you can't find it on the mainpage try looking in their forums for additional stuff

Yea, it doesn't exist. Well, according to many sources on the qhimm forums it doesn't anyway. Turns out it would be complicated, as all backgrounds are drawn at 640x480. However they all mentioned using anti-aliasing as an alternative, so I'm guessing this effect I'm getting with it don't happen to every machine. Just check these screens out. Heh, reminds me of Pink Floyd's The Wall. Oh, and darth sephiroth, there isn't one for FF7. Sorry, I was thinking about some posts about it here on the emuboards. Turns out they were using anti-aliasing, not running at higher resolutions. EDIT: Heh, I just tried setting the "alternate pixel center" in the D3D options for my Radeon, it looks good now. The menu and card game still have a little bit of a buggy look, but not as bad as the screenshot below and everything else is fine. Last edited by Mako Eyes; May 13th, 2006 at 16:21.. |

If that's the case then it can't be that hard for them to make one for FF8... can it? Ah well, I got antialiasing working, it's good enough for now. |

Just made this post, maybe some help to you? It works for fullscreen modes, and on nVidia / ATi cards.

You would use this when displaying on an arcade or specific TV. Not a computer moniter as a res fix. However now that i look it seems to have went well for you. This is also an option in image editing for printer specific output rendering and what not. EDIT: It also would help with squaring up some angles like a fake AA in the case of displaying already square pixels. Digital images with already offset pixels woulf probly get more jagged on a alternate pixel display. ANyways witht he pixel centers off i could imagine it looking a little bette rin some instances.
