Something like Metroid Prime?
This is probably a pretty long shot, but I've been playing Metroid Prime for the past few days ... and I started wanting a game with similar gameplay and mechanics on the PC. You know what I mean? Like a game with the whole collection/scanning of items, or maybe some decent FPS set in a futuristic setting? I think I'm aware of almost every FPS game out there ... but I'm hoping that I missed one. Maybe something like the original Deus Ex? Goddamn that game was sweet. Did anyone make something similar to that? Or does anyone have any recommendations for "futuristic" FPS games? Singleplayer of course. Something with a plot? Thanks! |

It still chokes me up when I think about that, and it makes me want to rant ... but I won't. ![]() Any others you guys can think of? Maybe not an FPS? 3rd person maybe? Beyond Good & Evil (sweet game) kind of works for what I'm looking for, but I've already played that to death. Last edited by Criftus; May 7th, 2006 at 07:59.. |

Those seven words are: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It's a number-heavy, free-roaming RPG superfest that was designed for the X-Box first. Saying that developers have to constrict stuff like that when designing for consoles is the stupidest thing I've heard. Then again, 14 year old X-Box fanboys wouldn't survive past the first guard encounter in the original Deus Ex. KotOR was a straightforwards RPG, those *******s seeing Invisible War as a FPS would probably expect a FPS ![]() Quote:
BTW: To get back onto the original topic, have you ever heard of Project: Snowblind? |

That's why I put in the unecessarily - they gutted the game because they genuinely thought that's what they needed to do for the console users. "Streamlined" was the marketing-speak I think. Simplified the UI, game mechanics, the whole deal. I'm sure I could probably find a quote to substantiate my claim, but the game sort of speaks for itself. It's so radically different from the original ... but maybe you understood what I was saying. If you did, now that I've re-read your response, ignore all of the crap above. Quote:

Babylon 5 > Star Trek > Star Wars (the new Battlestar Galactica will fit in between B5 and ST very soon though, it kicks ass) I've never been "into" Star Wars as much as Star Trek. As in: I watched the movies, played the games. I don't buy into the whole pretentious culture of it in any way. KotOR was simply put: totally awesome. I mean, any game that uses Jennifer Hale's voice is normally viewed initially with "this game is gonna be generic" overtones, but KotOR used her face as well. Automatic awesomeness. Quote:

yeah, I love the game, it so damn long and scary as hell. my old pc had issues with it too, which is why i'm playing it again, cause it doesn't run like ass anymore... the guns breaking is annoying at the beginning of the game, but you can repair them over and over, and once you get some of your maintainance and repair skills up to about 3 or so, you don't really need to worry bout it anymore. or, you can just go into the config file and turn it down a bit...

As for Project: Snowblind, I'll try and find a demo or something. Thanks for the suggestion. Quote:
I love it. Played it far too much as well. hehe You're right though, some of the game mechanics in Prime are very similar to SS2 (in that order). As for those who have complaints about SS2? Forget it. The game is a masterpiece and any failings are more than made up for by everything else that's present in the game. Looking Glass is God. I'm still waiting for SS3. lol ![]() Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm happy to keep talking about gamings sci-fi greats, but if there's a game on someone's mind that might fit the bill I'd love to hear about it.

What I wouldn't give for a SHODAN-taking-control-of-the-earth's-infrastructure scenario ... *sigh* so much potential.I gave Project:Snowblind a try last night. I'd actually played the demo a while ago but forgotten about it. lol Needless to say, I was disappointed. There are some games that are just too heavy on the frantic action, and Snowblind was definitely one of them. Everything felt like it was in fast-forward. From my impressions of the demo, at least. |
