Sony employee gets fired for badmouthing the PS3
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=14477 More intersting than the fact he got fired for letting out information on how problematic the PS3 dev units are, and information on how Sony is behind schedule on getting the system lauched, is that he mentions how people who have actually been working with the devkits for both the PS3 and 360 are calling the 360 the superior development platform. I think Sony may have some real trouble on it's hands here. Since Microsoft beat them to launch, a major part of Sony's strategy has to be about pushing the technical superiority of their console. As long as they hype the theoretical specs, it will keep consumers in "wait and see" mode long enough to prevent them from getting a 360 before the PS3 comes out (which is looking to be not very soon.) If word gets out that in terms of real world game performance the PS3 is as only as good, if not worse than the 360, they're looking at a serious loss of market share. |

Perhaps the devkit is more complex to use, but if you keep in mind the hardware difference, it is understandable. As for the employee, he was asking for it. You don't bad mouth a product of a company you are working for.....really, common sense. r2rX

Eh, I don't think it really matters all that much. Technically the PS2 was harder to program for and had inferior performance than the GC and Xbox but still had the lead due to games. Ultimately it's not hardware that drives the market but the software. As for the employee...kind of dumb on both his part and Sony's, but you know what they say about not biting the hand that feeds you.

Thats old news and i seriously doubt that guy was fired "after" posting that. Also the guy made false coments like "where's the selfshadowing?" wheres the HDR?", (in VF5 and MGS4 for example) and looked like he didnt know what he was talking about. And since the PS3 is set for a spring release i really doubt its that late in devolopment. Also thats not forget he was a True American and one of the coments a friend of him made was "Congrats you are a true patriot!" Kinda suspicious huh?

I don't care for the hype of anyone here, I'm really looking forward to Nintendo's console, but even then, some things might change my mind. I'm still hoping to hear anything about Shenmue 3

Sony will lose their control eventually as we (people around 19-23) grow up and raise kids and don't buy them consoles just because it's got a million games for it.Quote:

I find that a bit unlikely... There's no way they could sell a console for that little unless it's specs were very limited. While I know Nintendo has decided not to go all out on the Revolution's specs, for $150 there's no way they'll be able to deliver a console that can even be competitive. $200 sounds a lot more likely, although I think they may have to sell it for a fairly substantial loss at that price.

...back to the topic, if he was under some kind of NDA that would explain him being given the boot.

"Robinson told PS3week that he asked at least two Sony employees to read the blog entry before it was posted, and even showed it to an SOE producer. "We were all in agreement that I was not breaking NDA with what I was saying," he said." Guess he was then

However, I can say as a gamer that the Game Cube sucked. Controller was worthless, and I don't ever recall seeing a game for it that could catch the attention of somebody above 8 years old for longer than 10 minutes. And yet before that, there was the 64, which I liked better than the Dreamcast or Playstation. So maybe they're just selling it cheap so they don't get completely squeezed out of the market this time around. Considering how many systems are bought by parents who don't have any idea what system is the best, they may opt to go for the cheaper one of the new generation. I just hope they don't continue on what seems to be their market share... young kids. Because the 64 was dope. |
