Talking To be released: Under Defeat (DC) (56k wrng)

Playasia page
March 23rd Under Defeat will be released. Here are some nice screenshots that certainly blew me away when I compare them to what I've seen from Trizeal.

Here you can find an MP3 with some samples from the soundtrack. To me it sounds really nice.

I can't wait to read some reviews and see if gameplay is just as good as its looks

Whoa! Should've read the page. Well I guess I'll still dust of my DC for the nostalgia.

That's the price for the limited edition, the price for the regular edition is $60,- or €48,- which seems pretty normal to me

I found some gameplay videos of both Radilgy and Under Defeat

Radilgy:
Images

I must say that these screenshots don't do the art style any justice so if you're interested in this shooter you should really check the video download page.

Under Defeat:
I've already posted the best screenshots, but here is a page with some very nice gameplay videos. By the looks of it, it's going to be one smooth, pretty game

After I saw the Radilgy videos I started to like the visuals. It's going to be hard for this game to prove it is better than Under Defeat, simply because the latter looks so much better in most ppl's eyes. I too fell for the pretty graphics. Both games look like they can give me some fun so I'll definately get me one of those

Btw, Under Defeat still has the upper hand for me because it looks like it's Raptor: Call of the Shadows, in 3d. I've played Raptor for hours at a friend's place years ago.

UD's gameplay looks like Zero Gunner 2 (also a DC game), only a prettier version (ZG2 doesn't look bad, mind).

It seems the DC is going to die now, I've been told that the official sega Under Defeat page says: "this game will commemorate the end of the Dreamcast" according to DCEmu's Metafox.

I guess we won't see any more commercial DC releases. For those reading my blog, this will also mean that Outrun 2006 for DC will never happen so we'll have to wait for the Holly3d engine and make our own

Thundering Heli-shooter Under Defeat lands on Dreamcast - Shipping within 24 Hours [Videos]

Considering the fact that the rotor of a real-life helicopter is just held in place by one bolt only (referred to by pilots as the "Jesus Bolt"), we are happy that G.Rev's lastest Dreamcast port lets us take to the skies without risking our necks in the effort. Coming straight from the Arcades, Under Defeat is more than just another NAOMI title gone SEGA home console. Judging by its crisp full-3D visual splendor, the smooth and addictive gameplay plus a pumping soundtrack that drives you ever on bringing airborne, sea and ground forces to a detonating halt, this horizontal action shooter is about to become a classic in its own right. Hot on the heels of the recently released Radilgy on planet DC, we were all the more excited to finally receive Under Defeat today, fully aware that the long anticipation period will now turn into long nights of machine gun rifles dodging mayhem.

G.Rev's Dreamcast Version sure is a Delight

Allowing for perfect ports of Arcade originals definitely is and always has been one of the Dreamcast's main strengths. Developer G.Rev (responsible for an earlier DC port of their shooter highlight Border Down), after introducing Under Defeat into Japanese Arcades in late October 2005, has again produced a 100% transfer of the original to the 128-bits SEGA system. While they were at it, G.Rev included several modes and set-up options on top of that, allowing players to choose different display versions. Freely select a stage in Practice mode for example and save replays right there. This footage can then be analyzed to improve your skills, getting farther along on just one credit as you progress. Lots of pictures, artwork and more got stashed into a Gallery mode for you to view when you need a short break from the challenging shooter action.

Exclusive to the home version is also an arranged BGM mode, where G.Rev offers some extended versions of tracks that say it all in terms of troubled skies ahead: "Toward a mistake", "Huge dead end" and "Tears which died" to just name a few. You can listen to the official soundtrack demo below:

Traditional 2D gameplay meets with fantastic three-dimensional backdrops, ensuring a very realistic feel across all five stages in Under Defeat. Controls are a very easy grasp, mastering the game will still require your full dedication: moving the stick will let you steer your copter around the screen, where you can hold one button to rotate your heli somewhat to get a better shooting angle at the military onslaught. Reminiscent of Zero Gunner 2, this adds a twist to the standard horizontal shooter take of similar games. Here, you have the choice between a "Normal" and "Reverse" option in order to set your preferences. Arsenal-wise, two face buttons unleash a steady stream of bullets (vulcan, cannon or rocket) or drop bombs. Then, there is an in-game mechanic simply called "Option". If you refrain from shooting for a while, a meter located in the lower left part of your HUD fills up and when ready, allows you to deploy an optional shooting device, which will fly alongside your machine, aiding in combat. This cool little helper can also be launched straight into enemies and has a timer, that lets your fighting buddy expire after some time. A cooldown exists also, so you've got to wait a bit before being able to whip out the next one.

Under Defeat is without a doubt one of the best genre representatives that ever existed. In case this would indeed be the last title to be released for Dreamcast (although we definitely hope for more to come!), we can't think of a better game to render SEGA's last console its swan song. See, it's not just for fans of the Dreamcast or enthusiasts of a somewhat now neglected game category. The superb shooter that Under Defeat is, seems to combine the best the genre has to offer, it's honestly that good. If you are looking for a quick-reflexes demanding challenge, a quality game for your Dreamcast or simply an action title with gorgeous graphics and great gameplay, we absolutely recommend you don't miss it.

Scene Petition for a Dreamcast release of G.Rev shooter Senko No Ronde

In a recent interview, Hiroyuki Maruyama of G.Rev mentioned that the option to do a Dreamcast port of one of their Arcade games is always there. Although G.Rev is excited by new Arcade hardware like the LINDBERGH, Maruyama still thinks that there isn't a greater alternative to NAOMI, which offers basically the same structure as the Dreamcast, facilitating easy home versions on the SEGA console. This sure gets everyone's hopes up high for a Dreamcast version of their popular Arcade title Senko No Ronde, which will see a release on Xbox 360 apparently. The Dreamcast community is still very much alive and has petitioned with G.Rev before for the DC release of Border Down. Dreamcast-Scene and Dream-Storming have initiated a petition for Senko No Ronde, a great effort. Lik Sang is joining their prayers on this and you can also still sign the petition here. Here's hope for the continuation of fine Arcade shooters to bless the Dreamcast!
I wonder when my copy will arrive

Awesome, we can never have enough quality shooters.

Will have to do some hunting over here though, it's not exactly easy to find DC titles.

It sure does remind me of Zero Gunner 2 which happens to be one of my favourite games of that genre along with Ikaruga and DonPachi. I just don't think my fiancee will let me purchase this.

You gotta admit, it lasted quite some time. The Dreamcast = Amiga of the 21st Century. If I can find a cheap DC and SC and the Shenmues, then I'll buy one.
