well i dunno what to say about this. pretty underwhelming. the VR training is not from HL2...but it's incredibly hard. monsters and soldiers come out of everywhere!

that's what most of the screenies are from...the other is the first level of gordon tales. there are so many modes you dont know what to pick....and none of them seem really appealing.

i guess it's MGS in the fact that it has MGS music and sound effects...but it's not stealthy at all (at least what i played) and i dunno...it doesnt feel very MGS-y. not to mention it plays like ass (it even says so on the website). i had to turn it down to 1024x768 with 4xAF and no AA and it was still slow. ugh. maybe im just doing something wrong...thoughts from anyone else?

edit: wow, i thought i was in 1024, that's what i clicked...and apparently i was in 800x600. so the game really does run like ass!

I dont think its supose to have anything to do with MGS.

"Half - Life 2 : Substance GOLD gives the HL2 single player campaign harder challenges and hectic action: 4 gamemodes to test your skills with, a wide array of weapons and 5 different player classes to best suit your gaming style. Welcome to the real Substance, what action is made of!"

Look at the logo and the background image on the website Mad posted.

http://ludus1942.ngi.it/index.html

They're definitely trying to make it look cooler than it is by appealing to things MGS.

doesnt matter, they are hella trying to bank off the MGS name here which is retarded....they should've called it "HL2: Weirder and Different!" rather than try to rip off MGS

All they did is rip models from various HL2 mods, and sounds from MGS...
they also recompiled original maps in a so cheap way that they're slower for the
same look (in other word they forgot optimizations)

You'd better wait for serious mods, like Dystopia or Perfect Dark², they're not
done yet but their demos already look almost professionnal

Serious free mode use homemade models and textures, and correctly compiled map that don't require 2.5ghz and 1gb ram too look better than that.

so what if it's free? it sucks.

goldeneye source is free, is way more optimized, way more fun, and way more like the game in its name, and that's only in alpha

"and way more like the game in its name"
do i have to explain it again?

Sure the mod sucks, u can complain about that, but i dont see the point of complaining about the Substance word.

Oh and btw, Goldeneye source sucks as well HL2DM with new models and weapons... hurray

Well theres a Linux distribution called KillBill and it's designed to run Windows programs and the name is hinting on Bill Gates, but the wallpaper of the distribution is of the sword with yellow background. It has nothing to do with KillBill, its just a referrence. As is this. I'm not entirely sure if that comparison was appropriate, but I tried :P.

Anyways I'm downloading it to check it out. I'll report back with what I think.

Update: It's not really that good. It's just like the regular game with tidbits added everywhere. Extra NPCs and thats about it. What I really found annoying was there were helicopter sounds in the background and it was hard to hear what anyone was saying.. which really spoiled it. This isn't worth the effort of downloading.
