the future of board gaming and other types of gaming?

Quote:
Entertaible concept: combination of electronic gaming and traditional board games

The Entertaible concept is a tabletop gaming platform that marries traditional multi-player board and computer games in a uniquely simple and intuitive way. Entertaible comprises a 30-inch horizontal LCD, sophisticated touch screen-based multi-object position detection, and all supporting control electronics. It allows the players to engage in a new class of electronic games which combines the features of computer gaming, such as dynamic playing fields and gaming levels, with the social interaction and tangible playing pieces, such as pawns and dies, of traditional board games.

Initially aimed at the out-of-home game market such as restaurants, bars, and casinos, Entertaible has the potential to evolve into a gaming platform for the consumer market.

A SCREEN? I think it simply jacks up the price. Board games are expensive enough as it is.

Nothing beats good old fashioned hand and mind power to get things to work. Heck, we still play Monopoly and Cluedo.

There will always be grannies for the simple stuff,
nerds for the roleplaying,
and cosplayers

(now don't that this offensive k? )

Anyway, I agree with Kraelis, those games sell at the same price as videogames here. I like to play such games, but the problem is either you have to get your family to play it as well, or a gather a group of friends. With computer games you can go against computer opponents, or get online.

It's concievable that a boardgame/screen such as this could have a single player mode in which the computer would control the other player/s (most likely using graphicl pieces rather than real ones, although it might be possible for it to control real pieces via magnets).

Well, I play pen&paper weekly and a screen would help with visuals when laying out the terrain.
