I'm a Nobuo Uematsu fanboy, but I also like Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflown) and Yasunori Mitsuda (Xenogears/saga).

Frank Klepacki (every command & conquer minus Generals) is the best ever.

Also worth mentioning:
Stephane Picq of the very first Dune game
Howard Drossin (Comix Zone, The Ooze, Sonic 3&K and Spinball)
Bobby Prince (Doom 1-2)
Terry S. Taylor (Neverhood and Skullmonkeys)
Reyn Ouwehand, David Hanlon and Rob Hubbard (C64 & Amiga works)
Tommy Tallarico (Earthworm Jim 1-2, his other works were crap)
Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage fame
Yashuhiro Nakano (Toshinden series)
Bjorn Lynne (Worms series and many other games)

Valkyrie Profile or Chrono Trigger. Can't decide, but these are easily the best Japanese game scores. In China I'd say Heroine Anthem or Legend of the Swordsman and Fairy, and in Korea, I'd say Magna Carta and Rhapsody of Zephyr. Yoko Kanno also did Uncharted Waters 1 & 2, and those had really good soundtracks, but I wouldn't say they're the best.

I really like the FF soundtracks, all of them. Shenmue's soundtrack is very good as well, it's a real pleasure to listen to. ATM I've been listening to one song of Baldr Force Exe for more than half an hour. I just put on the game, and that one song makes me feel so relaxed, I really like the music in the game. Perhaps it's a bit generic when compared to other japanese games, but I do like it as I don't have any other game with music like this

Does anyone remember the game Dragon Valor? It was really underrated and didn't do too well. It had an awesome soundtrack too but it was never released and no one will rip the psf's .

does anyone know wat other games Motohiro Kawashima composed music for besides streets of rage 3?
By the way, the sor3 music was below par i think. Some of the tracks were just craP. If u listen to the bulldozer track ull see what i mean..
I wonder why Yuzo Koshiro didnt composed the music for his beloved franchise?? does anyone know?
