Of course what to do to parents who buy kids "M" games is beyond me...
Well it's very simple: Even if that kid steps out of line, and the parent would blame the videogame, the shopowner has got his back covered by the law, as he did nothing illegal, so the parents can't blame him. The only ones that are to blame are the parents themselves as they were the ones to buy 'illegal' or 'inappropriate' material for their children. If I were judge I'd say 'they don't put AO on that game for nothing, and you gave it to your kid, it's your own responsibility'.

But I think that that last thing seems to be something a lot of people out there have forgotten: The fact there is always something as own responsibility. But hey, it's always better to blame someone else, that way you might be able to make some money by filing a lawsuit.

Now why can't I get that sentence 'only in america' out of my head

I never took game ratings seriously because games get so overrated. All the Final Fantasies are M15+ for animated violence.

Can't agree more Cid. It's the avoidance of responsibility.

The thing that is truly ridiculous is the distinction between M and AO, it's a one year difference, and the line between the two is blurred. The huge difference is that stores won't carry AO games (which are akin to rated R and NC-17/X movies).

Thompson is simply using this distinction to draw attention to himself. It's ridiculous to even base your reputation on this issue.

I understand Elly and DW's point in saying that by drawing our attention to thompson, we are letting him win, but not all attention is good. This is not entertainment... people won't vote or support Thompson out of curiosity (as they would watch a controversal movie out of sheer curiosity). As long as normal, law-abiding americans (i'm 22 yrs old) can show others how extremely ridiculous Thompson is being, we can have the hope that others will have the common sense to be against Thompson's short-sighted views:

Quote:
When we alerted Thompson that we intended to seek out additional details and verification of his claims from the FBI itself--as to the status of such an investigation and progress being made (the FBI employs trained media specialists for such purposes), Thompson replied with some urgency: "Are you, crazy? ... People are threatening to kill me. Either report what I have said, having been provided the emails, or stop bothering me."

After reading the CAD thread that Lobo posted (especially this post), the thing that comes to my mind is that Jack Thompson reminds me of Alex Shrub from GTA: Vice City . Anyone who's listened to VCPR in the game should know what I'm talking about .

I wouldn't care if he didn't have so much impact on these things, I wonder will he see a "full blown sex scene" if he saw Need For Speed Underground 2 because it features a few sexy female characters[...]
that and the game is supportive of illegal driving. I mean, there might be a disclaimer, but that only makes it more obvious. NFS was made to get young drivers to drive dangerously and recklessly on roads - just look at all those so-called street racers! They want to play NFS in the real world, and that's a big bad thing, so PLEASE BAN ALL RACING GAMES!

Thank you.

Me looks at Eface and one of his recent threads

Btw, what was that story again on msn you were talking about?

Anyway, if you take a look it things that way might as well sue Sega for all the damage graffiti has done. After all you never know IF the game had some kind of influence on the artists.

It was about how I always drive safe and responsible, and on the left side of the road.

You see, games aren't that evil, they teach you that you can also overtake from the right side whenever that's safer

Left sided driving here as well
I can see some people in the US using the fact that we say we drive on the left side as proof that NFSU2 makes us dangerous drivers to uninformed americans who don't know that some of us normally drive on the left
Where did the driving on the right originate anyway?

It was common sense until some British general suggested that "driving" horses on the left side would be better for self-defense.

This is weird. I read people considering DoS-ing his server, but www.stopkill.com still works. Maybe he got tired of all those hate mails he received... Suits him right

Just read his website www.stopkill.com and suddenly I've seen the light.

Quote:
In April 1999, eight days before Columbine, Jack Thompson appeared on national television to identify the role that shooter video games, specifically Doom, would play in future school shootings. A week later in Littleton, Colorado, Klebold and Harris, who obsessively trained on Doom, killed thirteen.
How much did he pay that kid
