There are mods AND soundfronts. I used to have a nice soundfront that makes the songs play just like the PSX version. But recently, I got a mod that makes all songs A LOT better, by replacing them with remastered MP3 songs. (But I don't need to say that it takes TOONS of HD space, right??)

But hey, I still think a resolution mod woulkd be nicer!

Is there something that replaces the sound with mp3s in FFVII? (I know it's OT, but I tried getting help for this PC game).

PSX movies are .str not .img, if I remember correctly. Here is a tool to extract/convert them to avi files.

For the uninformed, inside the actual FF8 Disc there is an img file with all the data inside that. Its my understanding that they did it this way so it would be harder for people to rip data.

The soundfonts do indeed make the music sound great, just like the PSX version as far as I hear. One thing they don't correct is the fact that the music has to start over again after a battle is over, which is very annoying. Sometimes long movie loading times ruin the PC experience (for some reason it's nearly immediate on some systems, but on others it takes forever. Depending on whether or not the CD is already running). But I just run from an ISO to fix that.

Another thing I don't like about FF8PC is that the overworld textures are HORRIBLY filtered, you can clearly see texture lines up the wazoo.

Other than that though, I rather like the game. My PSX version is busted so I'm stuck with the PC version ;[

I own both PSX and PC version and I actually liked the PC version more(with soundfont patches). Aside of the improved FMVs, I really liked the 3D Polygons in the PC version, low res or not, at least they don't shake. :P

FF8 uses Bink Video for the FMV's. You can use FF8FMV to play them.

I have been trying to play Final Fantast VIII for the pc but the awful sound quality has prevented me from playing.

If there is a mod out there that allows me to replace the songs with mp3's I would be very thankful if anyone could tell me where I could find it.

I have been searching for the last 5 days for a way to fix the music quality.
Right now I got samuel slights soundfonts but it still sounds pretty bad because I dont have SBlive! I just cant get it to sound good with my SB X-fi Xtreme gamer card, if I managed to get it to sound like the previews on the site I DL the soundfont from I wouldnt have a problem.

If anyone could help me with this or point me in the direction of a mod that lets me have mp3's play ingame like mentioned in the post I quoted I would be very thankful.

Hi
Yes, I have made a thread there under the username Zellpropell and asked for assistance but I have not been successful in acquiring help there so far.
