What happen to science fiction RTS?

What happened to all the Science Fiction RTS?

There's the popular Starcraft and I played Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War but about 90% of the RTS are in a medieval settings with swords, orcs, magic,castles etc. (Age of Empires, Warcraft, Age of Mythology,etc.)

Is it that difficult to create an RTS with ramaging mechs, plasma guns and space ships?

Rise of Legends is going to be science fiction. It's just easier to make a game based on past events since people can better relate to it.

1800s science fiction by the looks at it, it looks like a science VS religeon battles will be the theme of many batles

There's also Dark Colony, an old sci-fi RTS (not as good as SC, of course).

But I really miss the sci-fi theme in RTS games...

C&C/Tib sun, the 3 Star Wars RTS', Dark Colony, Dark Reign/2, Total Annihilation, Starcraft, WHDoW, Dune 2, Dune 2k, Emporor Battle for Dune, Mechcommander/2, Z, there's more, but I can't be bothered to remember them all
