Post Yamauchi Steps Down from Nintendo Board of Directors

-data-

Today, Nintendo revealed that former company president Hiroshi Yamauchi was retiring from his position on Nintendo's board of directors. Yamauchi-san has held an official management position at Nintendo for more than 50 years, since his father passed away and he became president in 1949. He will be retained as an adviser to the company and will control 10% of the company's total stock.

When Yamauchi-san retires on June 29, he will have a lifetime of achievements at Nintendo to reflect upon. With his approval, Nintendo launched its first forays into the budding videogame field with arcade titles and, later, home console software and hardware manufacturing. Despite resigning as chairman and president of the company nearly 3 years ago, Yamauchi-san still held great sway over the company, as demonstrated by how he reportedly was a primary architect for the Nintendo DS' basic design.
