There's a lot of issues with AoE 2 running on Windows XP.

Despite it says the game box can run in XP, the game doesn't run my XP system.

The game only works when I run it in Windows 98 SE.

I did a search from the looks of it SP2 maybe the issue.

The games affected by Service Pack 2 are as follows:

Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
Chess Advantage III: Lego Chess
Combat Flight Simulator 3
Command & Conquer: Generals
Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
.
.
. etc.

Did you get the AoE III update yet?

Exclamation

i look at M$ site, and AOE 2 wasnt on the SP2 list of broken games.
Thanks for the info.
Now to convience my brother SP2 is necessary.
He dont want to stop playing that old game....

EDIT: yeah he had the patch "c" for a long time.
I had disabled the built in firewall, dunno why the problem persists.

EDIT2: Found this info: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/ftl.html
