Multiplayer game with nice community?

Maybe sounds like a paradox but I'm sure there must be one out there smile.gif
Well all started when I read a post by some guy that made me think...
Sadly I can't find it for the life of me hmm.gif
Anyway it was about Wheel of Time FPS and its community. How it was great when it all started with great battles and people helping newbs out and stuff. How you had great different strategies and counters and so on. I never had a pleasure to play this game but have read the books lately (thanks to this post actually smile.gif

That made me kind of sad. I remember how i tried to get into Warcraft III TFT but couldn't because there were so few "normal" games (Blizzard maps and not custom games) and all the people that did nothing but trash talk all day long. I went back to StarCraft that I have played for years but suddenly I saw this "bad community" problem more clearly now that I paid attention to it. Same stuff, people attacking eachother, trying to humiliate other players so they could laugh at them in channels and so on and so on. CS was long dead for me since my clan started cheating (a few guys). I grew tired of Diablo2 LoD and all the bots and me playing it for 4 years.

I tried MMORPGS but couldn't/can't find enough time to play them so I never become uber and couldn't find a few people that I could play regularly with.

Now I'm pretty tired of all SP games, I would like to play another people and have fun! Not be humiliated and called names if I were 20 sec late with my build order and such.
I'm sure there must be some game out there that have nice people playing it and not griefers. I'm open for any kind of game, RPG, FPS, RTS, sim, anything so long as people are nice and I can have fun for once.
I'm aware that I would probably get into it too late and that everyone would be better than me but I have no problems with learning to play.

So what do you guys think? Is there such a game or should I just zip it and play bots in UT2k4?

Well frankly that wont happen unless you play on a lan with your own buddies. Alot of people these days dont tolerate newbs, mostly cause newbs are getting way dumber, not even reading anymore. To get the experience you want you'll have to find some of your own people to play with online.

Yeah, I came to same conclusion after trying many games, sadly my buddies don't game at all I'm the only one computer and game interessted :/ Never been to a LAN as well

It's really quite simple.

All game communities start off small, and if any good, expand a great deal beyond their initial numbers of devoted players. The reason why many people who were there from the start think everyone was so much nicer in the beginning is because of two of many intardnet rules: "the more anonymous people on top of each other, the more retards find their way from under the groups's growing weight" and "the more retards emerge, the more nice guys give up and leave annoyed".

I've been part of the original UT's european community, and I lasted 4 years before I had no more time to compete with the top ranking players/clans. In those 4 years, the public servers as well as our Quakenet IRC channels changed drastically. I witnessed the introduction of the never-ending spawning of "n00b"-callers who did so at everything they thought was funny or frustrating. I witnessed cups of lower skilllevel get more bloated with clans/players who were out to wage war on anything they could set their eyes on. Eventually, I witnessed young kids with too much free time on their hands who had an offensive vocabulary and no respect penetrate the higher ranks, because most of these simpeltons had enough time to practice (although barren of any talent). Where no good punks came, I witnessed good and mature people growing tired and leave. Other oldskool people simply don't care or reply as offensively towards such idiots, and smaller part of these were so skilled (albeit a bit arrogant ) at the game that they wouldn't be discouraged by offensive behaviour at all.

You end up with arrogant, ****y, idiotic, intolerant, and noisy people as a major part of the community. Yay. Things get copied from people, people adjust, and then you have a common behaviour that isn't as friendly as could be.



Within the UT community, we were often compared to the CS community, and we ended up saying: "See? Things aren't so bad here, yet." It was true for a very obvious reason ofcourse. The CS community is huge even when compared to UT's community, thus you have more cheaters, more idiots, and so on. Probably more nice guys too, but still.



If you want a friendly community, find a starting one with no apparent connection to an existing one.

Well , playing through internet is like gambling , you can't choose your opponenst . Lan rocks , I play Mohaa mainly and other games through Lan with my friends and I want to play against new ones , we play as a team (me and friends against them)

How true and how sad ain't it? How everything would be much simpler if one were prick like everybody else So what people on ngemu forums play these days?

I suggest that you give MMORPGs another try... today's two main MMORPGs are World of Warcraft and Everquest 2. The downside is the monthly fee but I assure you that you won't find such a solid community elsewhere. They are not so time demanding as you may think... I play Everquest 2 and there is not a day that I do not tag along with somebody to go do something. If you like roleplaying you will love EQ2, I've heard great stuff about WoW as well...

MMORPG's seem to have some decent people. When it comes to lam0rs, FPS seem to be the worst. Especially Star Wars titles ... (OMG!) Anyways, good luck. As cloudvii said, it's like a gamble. Sometimes you get a group of good people to play with and sometimes the people are real idiots/a$$holes

If you're looking for some good people to play with, try playing some XBOX live games. There is virtually no cheating, and the vast majority of players aren't jerks. Well, at least not in any of the games I play. Some games I'd reccomend are Dead or Alive Ultimate, and DDR Ultramix 1/2 (not many players left on 1 though).

I generally don't participate in threads which quickly deteriorate into people recommending Windows-only programs, but I'm going to make an exception. (I'm even going to start the linking!)

The only reason I even maintain a Windows install anymore is for two games: Subspace and FUO (Free Ultima Online).

For Subspace, all you need to do is go to http://www.subspacehq.com

Short description: A 2d overhead team-based space ship shooter. It's the world's oldest running MMOG and the community is for all intents and purposes fantastic. There are a lot of dumb servers, but if you're looking for good quality fun, play the 17th Parallel. 17th takes some skill though. Most newbies go to Trench Wars first.

FUO is a community of player run Ultima Online servers. It's very well organized and there are dozens of quality servers to play on. To play you'll need a UO client. A quick ISO download from a P2P community or a quick $20 will land you the client. From that point forward, everything else is free. Just go to http://www.uogateway.com and download the gateway client to connect to free servers. I recommend the UOGamers and Metropolis servers.

And as a man extremely picky when it comes to gaming communities, I can assure you both games have high quality communities. Those games are both so good IMHO that it's still worth maintaining a Windows partition.

I've tried all kinds of different communities. I was back during the original Cs started and there was about only a hundred of us. I've been through mod after mod. Game after Game. I've learned one thing. Find people you feel comforatble with and don't let go.

I had a blast in Lineage 2 beta, as well as in Knight Online. It was due to talking to members on these forums and linking up with them in game. I even like the LS (Linkshell) I am in, in Final Final XI.
