Screamer
Why is it I can't find any vaguely recent PC games of the calibre of this. I want to drift excessively round corners like in Ridge Racer and Screamer, but other than Initial D (who's drift is actualy surprisingly understated), I can't find any decent games like it. Anyone know of any?

Screamer was one of those special games which comes out once in a really long while... other than Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally I haven't found a racing game like that on the PC. Quite hard to match...

well, it's not exactly like screamer , but you could try LFS. (lfs.racesimcentral.com) ...analog device required.
and, yes, it's simulation-like, but it DOES feature a few very drift-friendly cars. Try the demo. It has the RWD cars, and they're the best for drifting. |

Yeah, Sega Rally 2 was quite good. I might try out LFS. I was thinking about it after I heard you ranting about it.
I don't even mind PS2/PSX/DC ones as I can still play them, but they are all heading Sim too. Last PSX racer I really liked was Rage Racer

....Micromachines is a top down raccer. That's not really what I'm after. It's really gotta be camer strapped to the bumper stuff.

I had my beautiful copy of Screamer until, like, 5 years ago, when I lent it to a cousin of mine and the fecker never returned it to me since then. To this end, I barely remember what it was like.

The drifting in Ridge Racer wasn't as fun as in Screamer. Rage Racer made it even worse, you slow down so heavily while drifting.

screamer 1 = supergrip
![]() I like RR's drifting better than that... as for Screamer 2 and Rally, they're quite different, but have excellent drift; rally style. then there's NFSU, which does have drift, allthough it's not exactly like its done in screamer either. Midnight club 2 isn't good with drift, and the new racer Juiced seems to be capable but ruins it by using the sidewalk as as track borders. There are Dirt Track racing games that have excellent drift, but they're sims and based on wierd custom cars in sand pits that don't have any appeal (at least not to me). There are a few new rally games coming up ..maybe one of those will have what we're looking for (or maybe nfsu2) I think LFS might be too much sim and too slow for your taste btw, but be sure to at least give it a try ![]() ..so, that doesn't leave very much I'm afraid. There are a few free racing sims around for which people developed the 86 (I believe both netkar and racer have it) but I have no idea if it will drive like you want to; theyre probably simulation-like, meaning that it will probably be 'dull' for someone who likes arcade racing better. ..for now, replace the rap crap in NFSU with eurobeat; that's the closest you're gonna get (I think). At the very least it makes the game more enjoyable. Last edited by Samor; July 21st, 2004 at 12:33. |

Not if you are using the car I use (1 grip, 5 accel, and high top speed). You tap the brake and turn in scremer, you do a superb drift, losing virtualy no speed. In RidgeR you have to let go accel, turn, tap brake, let go turn and accel, if you judge it right, you lose no speed, and can in fact gain speed. In RageR you have to let go accell, turn, accel and countersteer, in so doing, 90% of the time you are back down to about 70 from 140 no matter how well I time it.

![]() I think I drift differently in Ridge Racer, not sure... I always find it a little hard to write it down (when not playing). Quote:
...and nope, it's not possible in NFS2SE. You can have some fun using the handbrake but that's it.

At least in RR Type 4 you can simply let go accel and hit it again with a drift car, it doesn't lose much speed. You have to time it quite carefully, though.
