FF9 for PC to be released anytime!!!!

from ffonline:

Quote:

It's just surprise after surprise. First a partnership with
Nintendo, now a return to the PC market. Squaresoft announces
Final Fantasy IX: Special Edition coming to the PC.

After blunders in the PC ports of Final Fantasy VII and VIII, Squaresoft tries again by releasing a special edition PC version of Final Fantasy IX.

We didn't think Squaresoft would bother trying again, but they did. After keeping completely quiet about a PC release of Final Fantasy IX for quite some time, even after releasing their Playstation 2 hit Final Fantasy X, Squaresoft recently released new screenshots and disc packaging images of a "special edition" PC port.

While we're not exactly sure what aspects of the game entitle it a special edition, Final Fantasy IX PC comes with 4 CG-character decorated discs and the screenshots emulate the graphic features of previous PC releases: sharp, smooth 3D polygons over pixeled backgrounds and text. FMV movies are incredibly sharp and appear in a letterbox format, somewhat similar to the impressive video sequences from Final Fantasy VIII. However, Squaresoft says this particular PC release is far superior from its past counterparts, featuring better support for video cards and has enhanced digitally tracked music, leaving the previously used and unimpressive midi soundtrack behind.

are these old news?... because it apeared in the latest features section

Well, square never developed for the pc to begin with, they let eidos do the porting. Now that they have experience, it might be more feasible, but i dunno about porting future FF games... then again, previous FF games are even more unlikely, and original square titles are out of the question. Which just leaves a slim chance for square pc games in the future .

it is kind of old, but hey, it allows some discussion :P

anyway, it is highly unlikely that Square releases any more ff games for PC, taking in account how bad were the sales with ff7 and ff8..... I would like to see ffx oe ff9 one day though

FF7 pc works great for me, the graphics are way better than the PSX ones, you only need the right graphics card
But it should've been done way better, especially the movies, they don't even run at 30 fps
But the game is okay, and the music, well it depends on what hardware or software you use for it.

FF8 pc has great movies, the best there was back at that time. Not one pc game could touch it!

even if it were true, epsxe emulates it perfectly, so you can spend 1/3 of the cost, buy the psx version and play it on PC anyways. you KNOW they wouldn't actually make it look better during the port, because that would actually cost money.
