Sure SF and Megaman are great games, but seriosuly, they get boring after a while. The need new titles, and game-plays.

I think 3D games can be done right, as long as they don't deviate too much from the 2D gameplay formula they use now. The thing is, 2D graphics take up a lot of space, especially if you want smooth animations and lots of characters, so it's difficult to make a KOF kind of game with SF3-level graphics. I wouldn't mind then doing 3D, as long as they don't repeat the crap that is the SF EX series.

I rather liked the 2D 3D hybrid of the SFEX series.

But yea, Capcom has stated that they weren't planning on doing another 2D fighting game 5 years after their latest one, then they decided to do this fighting jam game. So they weren't planning on a new 2D fighting game in a long while. Also hence all of the recent rehashes like Mega man collections, Hyper SF 2 AE, etc...

So it really isn't anything that surprising, disappointing? Yes, but surprising? no.

I agree with you there. If they can stick to the 2D formula and just make the models and the backgrounds 3D,it aught to be great. But for some reason that just didn't happen with the sfex series - it doesn't play like streetfighter 2d at all.

That's exactly what i mean.

In theory, it was the coolest idea ever - but they should have kept the gameplay the same as the 2d streetfighters.

If Capcom wish to make a new 3D fighting, I hope it's an actually new title game not remaking another Street Fighter title .I am getting bore enough, especially seeing Ryu and Ken are always wear the same clothes and always use the same style .

what the ? ok , hear my thoughts . I was willing that capcom will be awaken again when it see it's rival (SNK) is coming back , now there will be no competition . And usually when there are no competitions the games suck (because players will have to choose that only game either ways)

Hey, from the news piece it seems like Noritaka Funamizu wants to create 2d games, so there probably would be competition. And SNK games still have to atract costumers to the amusement arcades, wich makes me believe they won't make sucky games just because there's no other companie producing such titles.

As of Capcom, i believe it's a logical move. As it's been said, they can make games that feel like 2D, with 3D graphics - that doesn't mean they are gonna make them, but there's no point in 2d games anymore. At least, from my POV.

Actually, I still like 2D games. The problem is, they don't have the graphical edge...

I think Capcom's just following the 3D trend. Although I hate to admit it, 2D fighters really just aren't what people are looking for nowadays. I think Capcom's tired of being on the top of a 2D fighting scene that no longer is the glory it once was. They'll probably be looking to compete with Namco and Sega in 3D fighters. As much as I love Street Fighter, it would be really nice and fresh to see a new fighter series in 3D come out of Capcom.

*krchack* BLAM!

hm...
sorry. but
you said evil things.

anyway, I think this might turn out to be a good thing. The person who left Capcom probably has the intention to bring new 2D fighting games; this might be much better than we think.

Ever played "Viewtiful Joe"? It's a beat-them-up (think "Final Fight") by Capcom for the Cube, using pretty much the concept you described: 3D graphics (in this case, cel-shaded), old-style 2D gameplay.

Very neat game, a fighter using a similar concept would be great.

Well I like the 2d because it can look and feel like an anime, you can't get the same thing in 3d.

Use of punctuation signs would do miracles in your post too... let's not get picky over other people's grammar, shall we ?

Who cares about 2D fighters ? Pretty much everyone. They are all the same ? Hardly. Sure, it all might have started with SF2, but the genre evolved into different branches... saying that they are all the same is hugely mistaken.
What we need are new ideas, not countless of boring FF-stuff or Seiken Densetsu clones... the world has already met its quota, it's time for something new.

Anyways, this is a good new... now this man will be able to retake the good path outside of Capcom's evil "franchise exploiting frenzy"...

This is certainly sad news, I love 2D fighting games with all my heart. The only 3D fighting game I like is Soul Calibur. But I also think that 3D fighting games can have a 2D feel, I mean just look at KOF:MI. That looks like a damn sweet 3D fighting game with awesome, fun, old school 2D mechanics.
