Tribes: Vengeance
Is anyone else out there a Tribes or Tribes 2 player? Quite frankly, I'm more excited about Vengeance than I am about Half Life 2 or Doom 3 at this point. Playing Tribes is just so much more interesting to me than your typical run-of-the-mill FPSs. I'm so sick of online shooters like CounterStrike it just makes me...well sick. Thoughts? Anyone?

I downloaded the free Tribes & Tribes II from Fileplanet in early may, so yeah, I play occasionally. As for Vengeance, I hope it'll turn really well. The update from Tribes 1 & 2 was really good, so the update between 2 and Vengenance should be good. Just hope it doesn't get delayed since Sierra's goin' kaput. As for Tribes stuff, though, I usually check out PlanetTribes I do agree on your Counterstrike point, though. It's just team deathmatch, that's it... people don't even go for the objectives (such as rescuing hostiges), they just keep playing deathmatch. Never really liked it, but I've been playing TFC since it came out, and still love that. ![]() - Modem |

It's one reason why UT2004 is so popular. The varied game types really let you have your choice of game. I prefer Assault myself. Tribes was a great game back in the day. I use to play it all the time. I never got into tribes 2, but I was a large fan of the Star Siege universe. I'm hoping the game really shines. |

I know they're making a ball game type that's going to play much like UT2004's bombing run. They're also tweaking a lot of features that, at least to me, really make Tribes unique. The number of deployable turrets will be lessened, Tribes 2's sensor network is being scrapped... It's all apparently to make the game more attractive and accessible to people who've never played the games before, which is good too. Always nice to draw a large fanbase for a multiplayer game. Makes for no shortage of people to play against. I just hope the basic play mechanics remain intact. The thing I really love about Tribes is how regular firefights often feel like aircraft dogfights, and that it's not really easy to make a kill. It takes some technique, which I think a lot of FPSs lack. I really like that and the fact that playing Tribes games makes you feel like you're actually in the middle of some huge battlezone. They're more immersive for me than any other FPS has been. |
