Post Chrono Trigger: Why is "he" in the woods?

I'm playing Chrono Trigger PSX and I have reached the cursed woods the first time. If you run quickly enough across the woods and don't get into any battles with the monsters, you will catch sight of a blue guy that looks a blub. I find that the blue guy appears randomly in the woods.

As I remember the guy is named Balthazar which you will meet later in the game. If you try and talk to him, he will say some amusing commments.

Why is Balthazar in the woods?

Was he in the SNES version?

He's also in the woods in the 65 billion bc if I remember right. If I remember right, he starts to run like hell when he spots ya, heh heh. And... this'll probably get moved to psx screenshots section, too. Just a guess.

This isn't Baltazar, this is a character/enemy called Nu, Baltazar used one to store his memories and his final program.
The one on your shot is here so that you can make some easy Tech Points (don't talk to him, touch the nearby enemies)

Yea, other than that throughout the game are NU's hidden. It's kinda like the Where's waldo of CT.

You forgot to mention that Nu has to be fought as well along with the enemies.

He puts up one heck of a fight. Nu can kill you so easily!

There isn't just one. Nus are creatures, like cats, that appear naturally all over the game. Not really a "where's waldo" thing. You're supposed to interact with them on many occasions.

In 2300AD Belthazar places all his thoughts and memories into a machine that looks identical to a Nu. In nearly every era there are wild Nu roaming around somewhere and they are a good source of tech points.

Ah, yes, Nus. I remember those guys. I used to love fighting them repeatedly in 65,000,000 B.C. I remember Crono knowing Luminaire before I fought Magus . Ah, that was fun.

The Hunting Rage is not the forest maze right?

BTW, is there a way to beat Magus the first time you try and fight him?

Can't that Nu change your name? Or was that some computer when you have the "other" Chronos? Is he the one who gives you the choice between that helmet and some sword? Ahhh, I can't remember...

If by beat you mean kill him in his castle then no. Otherwise you have to win the fight to continue onward

Do you know which part of the Hunting Rage you can find him?

It rains, but I can't find Nu.

There are 3 spots in the hunting grounds for him to appear.

Bottom Left Top Left and Top Right I believe. It randomly picks one so just run quickly between them when it starts raining.

I remember that there is one part in the Dark Ages where you can fight about 6 Nus at the same time. They are in a secret room in one of the buildings in the Zeal Kingdom, i dont remember where

The good thing is that you cannot lose that fight, since once they hit you, your HP is dropped down to 1. The next blow will not inflict any damage on the characters.
