According to an article in the latest issue of the Japanese print gaming magazine, Famitsu, Nintendo's top executive Satoru Iwata has hinted that the next iteration of its home console (currently being called GameCube 2) will be backwards compatible, allowing GameCube game owners to play their library of games on the new system. Details on how they'll facilitate backwards compatibility is unknown (hardware add-on? similar media format) and this admission by Nintendo's top guy isn't exactly 100 percent confirmed, so stay tuned for more information as we have it.
Well that's cool new's, I like it when console's can add this feature somehow. Play your favorite past console game's while enjoying new gen

Well, this is most certainly great news, so this means that, either Nintendo will keep the mini-DVD format or go for normal sized DVDs, but still have the encryption key ?

That's good news and well probably help bolster sales to some extent. Everyone loves backwards compatibility. On the other hand, I don't know how much I trust a guy named James Fudge

That’s right. Nintendo’s new next generation console will be code named N5 (as in 5th console). As usual the Big "N" is tight lipped about it’s details. They still plan on releasing the N5 in 2006 (basically before PS3).

Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, has reported that the N5 will most likely be backward compatible with the GameCube. With both ATI and IBM making a return appearance to N5’s chip design, it most likely will be. Mr. Iwata-san goes on to remark on how enhancing graphics is only of minor concern. They are focusing on new and interesting ways to play games.

Woohoo. That way I don't have to worry about keeping yet another console around. Then again, ti'll be a couple years yet. Ah well, now all they need to do is add some other snazzy feature, like a addon to play snes games or something. Though that's not likely to happen since it seems they just prefer to re-release every snes game on the GBA, haha.
