funny, but some corrections are needed
![]() I don't think banjo was the first game with a lense flare; the first game in which I noticed it clearly was the game F1 Racing Simulation (1997) Also, the first DOA has a visually even more stunning animation (also 1997?) ![]() and of course this is all only about 3D (Mai is older )also... was Ridge Racer the first widely available game with textures? |

But you're sure allowed to correct it if you want.

yeah... hair could be more detailed. it's already better than before though.
dirt/mud on cars already exists too. In Race Driver 2 they introduced some kind of shiny-ness effect on cars (sort of sun reflections) which I hadn't see before; it works reasonable (and the prequel had a blur effect that's not included in this game, by the way). oh yeah Ikaruga (2001) introduced "explosions so big that the game gets slowed down". cool effect; border down has it as well. |

Well HL2 will probably set the standard with water effects.
I think the next might be weather effects on the character. Heat causes the character to visibly sweat. Rain splashes on characters and you can see it run down the characters' face and soak their garments. Can't think of any other physics right now, but those are some I'd really like to see in a game.

![]() allthough DOA2 was maybe the first game to introduce it in a more.... realistically exaggerated way.

this has to do with lighting, but i think it might have an impact in games. i just saw this interesting article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3683853.stm
Already, games are making use of lighting for realistic models, such as far cry and doom 3. But that takes it to a whole new depth, and if they can do that in games, it'll be quite the eye candy .

Soul Calibur(1999): Boobs bouncing, but they look like bouncing silicons, those of Ivy don't look natural. They bounce the same way like a stiff spring.
Whirl effects: Like in FF7: the emu plugin authors sure had some problems on that one FF8: FMV's of supreme quality.

Or like when the rain starts, the water will find it's way on the ground.
