best game intro's

I'm curious as to what people find the coolest/best game intro's; you know, the kind that really makes you want to play the game.
Here are some of my favourites:

Salamander (MSX)
SD Snatcher (MSX2)
Snatcher (Sega CD)
Capcom vs SNK (DC)
Garou: MOTW (second intro) (NeoGeo)
Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS)
Need For Speed 2 SE (PC)

i'm gonna give the same answer that i did for what people chose for the game with the best ending. ff8 all the way. that was one heck of an amazing fmv, and the song was really cool too.

as for non-rpg, i really liked the intro to need for speed underground... and pretty much every neversoft logo opening credit... not technically a game intro, but they're cool nonetheless.

The whole intro to FF6 was just awesome... especially if you include the Mode 7 credits bit, with Terra and the Magitek soldiers approaching Narshe (I say if you include it cause you can actually skip it if you want). Drew me in right away with its cool narrative and simply amazing music. Square had a whole bunch in the PSX era cause of their liberal use of mind-blowing CG eye-candy. Definitely agree with FF8... even though I didn't like the game much, the intro was pretty damn awesome. Parasite Eve had another really well put-together intro with really cool music. Actually the PSX generation in general really upped the production values and really focused on giving a cinematic flare, and had lots of sweet intros. FF7 was probably equally impressive at the time it first came out - the whole 3d CG thing, with the use of very cinematic cameras was really cool... I also like how it transitioned right into gameplay. A couple of games that I thought were cool cause they had "flashback-type" intros where you actually have control and play through a small portion were Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Chrono Cross... very well done, plus both had simply awesome music.

An old school intro that is pretty cool is Ninja Gaiden. Actually all 3 NES NG titles had cool intros that drew you into the game right away. I thought the old Commodore 64 game Windwalker had a really cool intro. Hmm... Ultima VI and The Summoning (not The Summoner, but the 1992 PC game) as well. I also really thought both Fallouts and Planescape: Torment had pretty sweet intros.

And of course, never to be forgotten are the Metal Gear/MGS games... always lots of cinematic flavor, so of course the intro is gonna be unique and attention grabbing.

Why isnt Xenogears included? -_- *stabs everyone in this thread*

Aside from Xenogears's exciting , marvelous and artistic intro ( yup yup, fanboy speaking here, but it IS indeed marvelous ), I agree that Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasies ( 7-10), Parasite Eve, Tales of Destiny I & II had great intros. Conker's bad fur day , Last Blade II, Garou Mark of the Wolf had some nice intros as well

Yours,
-Elly

a console port of Twinkle Star Sprite, can't remember which one.

There was a sequence in the intro where the girl grows breasts as apart of her transformation into a super being or whatever. I made an animated gif of it which I posted, but it was removed by Elly since this is a family site. When did this become a family site? I wouldn't bring my family here.

FF8 easily the best. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it I'm gonna play that song ...
I enjoyed FFX's near-intro (it's not exactly the intro, but it's in the very beginning)
Suikoden 3's was well done.
I enjoy the Blizzard cinematics but non of the intros stick out in my memory (Though the ending to War3: The Frozen Throne was awesome).

Here's my list:

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Gran Turismo 3
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

I thought FF7 and 8's intros were nice (most people probably know why ); GT3's intro was really cool, I think most of it was rendered in real time (parts of the beginning are FMV); GTA3's intro had nice music and had a cool art theme; and GTA:VC's Commodore 64 clone thingy was cool .

Metal Gear Solid 2's intro movie is a stunner. IMO the best opening to a game.
Not to forget FFX's first FMV.

meh, it had a pretty cheesy opening, aside from there being a bunch of big robots its the typical "home town burning" intro

i forgot about FF4, that game's intro was awesome really, the intro imo ends when you leave baron castle cause that's really the start of the game

i just remembered, another game with an awesome intro (way better than anyone would really expect) is heroes of might and magic 4.

i know i know, everybody's thinking "come on, how good could it be". seriously though, if you get a chance to look at it, do so, it's really cool.

there are many good ones, but these ones are especially memorable for me:

- Soul Edge (Soul Blade) -> fantastic
- FF8 -> bombastic
- Winning Eleven 7 -> superb
- Silent Hill -> most mysterious

also pretty good were:

- MAFIA
- Total War (Shogun)
- StarCraft (original)
