<--- still feels like a dork cause he won't read faqs or do tips, until after he beats the game first.

I've recently been sitting down with Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. It's very simplistic, but has a great story and fun little battle system.

-Shining force Saga ( MegaCD / genesis )
-Record of Lodoss Wars ( Mega CD , its in japanese but excellent )
-Record of Lodoss Wars : Lodoss Tou Senki ( SNES , there is a translation patch for it )
-Royal Stone ( Game Gear , one of the best games on that handheld too )

They are: Atlus. Atlus did Shining Soul on the GBA and worked on the Shining Force remake too, IIRC
