Post Nintendo requests Final Fantasy III

-data-

source: RPGamer

Nearly 14 years to the day of its original release, Square-Enix still has dreams of Final Fantasy III swirling in its head. After experiencing countless setbacks developing a port of the game for the defunct Wonderswan Color, fate, it seems, has intervened. Fate, in this case, just happens to be Nintendo; Mario and his crew have asked the Square-Enix development house responsible for the port if they'd be interested in porting their project to the Game Boy Advance.

While nothing is set in stone at the moment, sources from Square Enix have assured a Japanese newpaper that the game is still in the works. When asked where the port (which was never abandoned) would end up the source strongly hinted at the GBA. There is no word yet on any North American release, but if the game is finally ported over the GBA chances are it will end up here.

No, they are talking about the original FF3 I believe, which was originally on the NES, and has never been ported or remade. FF3/6 has already been remade in FF Anthology.

The Final Fantasy of the topic isn't Final Fantasy VI, it's Final Fantasy III (the real FF3, released on the Nes). As for the news... this just proves that the Square-Enix merging was all noise and little action, if the best they can do is continuously rehash their old great titles then I'm extremely disappointed.

No, like the article says, Nintendo REQUESTED it. And since they requested it, and if Square-Enix thinks they can make money off it, of course they will do it. It's not like Square-Enix isn't making new games....*cough Front Mission 4, Kindgom Hearts for PS2 and GBA, FFXII, Star Ocean 3, and Dragon Warrior VIII*cough....and those are just what I can think of off the top of my head...

And look at all the ones they just released... FFTA, FFCC, FFXI (am I seeing a pattern here???)

Anyway, now that gaming has come a long way, there will always be a mix of "rehashes" and new games too. That's just the way it's going to be.

To Yeloazn: Sorry, your right, FF6 was just a port...now that I think about it, it would be so cool to see that game done up in gorgeous graphics. So would FF4 though, too...although we have a while to wait for that...

FF4 already had a remake. (nothing to big just some graphical upgrades and a remixed song or two)

No thats not true. They could have released FF 7-11 on other consoles and made tons of money but never did. In the gaming industry it is alot about relationships between companies.

So... I gather that Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy I, II and this possible Final Fantasy III aren't remakes, they are... remakes ?

Sony owns over a quarter of Square-Enix. it won't allow the main series on anything other then a Sony system.

For crying out loud. Nintendo's really being dumb about this. Unless they completly remake the game, it wouldn't even be worth reading any reviews of the game once it gets released... this is pathetic on Nintendo's part. They won't stop releasing games that have been released for SNES already, and RE-RELEASED on psx. Nintendo's really starting to bore me. From this, you pretty much know that CT will be released after this then.

hey , the ff4,5,6 ports/remakes had many extras to have (specially cg fmv / some remixed themes , high quality music (PSX>SNES) but the 2d sprites weren't much updated (origins had better change for sprites))

Not really, the GBA's music capabilities are extremely high. Just check Sword of Mana or Fire Emblem VI/VII musical score... music isn't the issue in here but rather the fact that the remakes are a continuous pest on the video game industry...

And yeah... it wouldn't surprise me that Chrono Trigger is remade after this... along with Final Fantasy VI and... who knows ? Maybe Final Fantasy V since we are already in there...
