Star Wars Episode III "The Videogame"

I caught this while browsing on IGN:

April 20, 2004 - LucasArts announced today they are developing a new game based on Star Wars: Episode III. The announcement came bundled with the news that a special behind-the-scenes look at the game will come with each classic Star Wars Trilogy DVD collection, set to hit stores September 21, 2004.

LucasArts has not released any details of the game, aside from the working title of Star Wars: Episode III and the fact that the game will chronicle the Jedi and their role in Episode III. The special featurette found on the DVD trilogy will show how developers have slaved away to create "the most authentic Jedi experience ever."

News of an upcoming Star Wars game can either mean joy or fear, depending on who you ask. But if the game follows the movie, the events taking place in Episode III will give players the chance to experience some wicked lighstaber duels, perhaps even the infamous battle between Obiwan Kenobi and Anakin.

The new game will most likely focus on close quarters combat, and not replicate the space battles seen in the StarFighter series, although a new StarFighter game is also likely sometime in the future to complete the franchise trilogy. Although nothing can be confirmed with LucasArts regarding the title, a leaked image of a poster given to TheForce.net also indicates that this latest Star Wars game will not have you in the shoes of an anonymous secondardy character, but actually playing as one of the two hero Jedis -- Obi-Wan or Anakin -- in the Episode III game.

Look for Star Wars: Episode III to land on store shelves sometime spring 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
