Viewtiful Joe 2

Ok, I came across this news on IGN:

April 21, 2004 - Publisher Capcom Entertainment today announced that it is in development with Viewtiful Joe 2 for GameCube and PlayStation 2. The sequel to 2003's hit beat-'em-up is scheduled to ship in America this winter for both systems, the company said.

Viewtiful Joe 2 will once again feature a stylized cel-shaded presentation and take players through comic book-like movie realms. The character will be able to perform a wide assortment of traditional and brand new fight moves in his ongoing efforts to kick enemy butt.

"Viewtiful Joe was the killer app for the GameCube in 2003, and this winter Viewtiful Joe 2 will raise the bar for excellence and innovation even higher with the second generation of the series," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing at Capcom Entertainment. "With new visual effects, enemies and challenges, Joe and Silvia are ready to take on an all new Viewtiful adventure."

In VJ2, Joe and his girlfriend Silvia -- both now fully playable -- are ready to face more challenging enemies and obstacles. Equipped with her pompoms for up close fights and projectiles for long distance, Silvia proves that she's as mean and cool as Joe himself. The title will boast a number of play and graphic enhancements, including a new special effect "Replay" option which allows players to repeat an action sequence for what Capcom describes as very "heroic results." New stages take Joe and Silvia through the jungles, the snowy mountains and of course, outer space. And to top everything off the title dishes out some 40 new adversaries to keep Joe's fists busy.

The full features list at a glance:
  • More Viewtiful 2D/3D hybrid action spanning more stages
  • New second playable character - Now gamers can select Joe's girlfriend, Silvia, who not only struts around with her infamous pompoms but also wields a weapon that fires projectiles to fend off the fiendish foes that she encounters
  • Over 40 different types of enemies to obliterate!
  • More diverse stages to explore - Viewtiful Joe 2 takes players through awe-inspiring detailed environments including a jungle, underground ruins, ancient Japan, snowy mountains and outer space
  • Six variations to the Six Machine - Now Joe's trusty aircraft transforms into various shapes to support his activities throughout various stages such as a racer, cannon, drill or submarine
  • In addition to the infamous "Slow," "Mach Speed," and "Zoom In" visual effects (VFX) powers, the action is even hotter this time around with the new "Replay" VFX power. Replay a punch for three times the damage. Need to restore some health? Eat a hamburger and replay it so you get three times the effect! But beware, try not to use Replay when getting hit or take on three times the damage!
  • Grab a hold of the enemy to swing and throw them around with vigor!
IGN will have much more on the game from the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004. But in the meantime we have first artwork of VJ2 in our media section.

Another tidbit:

April 21, 2004 - It's a viewtiful day for PS2 owners as Capcom has announced that both Viewtiful Joe 2 and now Viewitful Joe are coming to the PS2. The gameplay in the PS2 version will be identical to the GameCube version, but there will be an appearance of Dante from Devil May Cry as an added bonus. The port will be overseen but not done by Clover Studio, the new Capcom studio formed from the Capcom Studio 4 crew who created the GameCube version and is working on both of the sequels, but Atsushi Inaba is still the lead on the PS2 version, and besides, a port of a game that was runner-up for Game of the Year here at IGN is still fantastic news. Henshin a go-go baby!

Viewtiful Joe came out on the GameCube last October and amazed gamers with both its bright cel-shaded graphics and its insanely difficult side-scrolling action. Special powers involved slowing down or speeding up time to have a different effect on fighting enemies as well as changing the effects of explosions. Success involved a combination of some serious hand-eye coordination and dexterity with the powers of warping time.

Viewitful Joe is slated for a fall release in North America. Check back later for more information about both Viewtiful Joe and Viewtiful Joe 2.

LOL @ Dante!

There was a slight confusion...

The original Viewtifull Joe will be ported to the PS2 with Dante in it.
Viewtifull Joe II will have the same content for both PS2 and GC.

Well, essentialy Danté was already the GC in Viewtfiul Joe; Alastor had some of his moves (even his friggin' name), and when he went into Viewtiful mode he said "Trigger me baby!" aka Devil Trigger. I can't remember if his double jump had the same rune/hexagram thing that Danté's did in DMC though as I couldn't unlock him

I hope that Danté will be a little easier to get than Alastor and Captain Blue was, so I can actually play as him. gwah.

Donno, but in that Dante image I posted he looks hilariously cool. I wonder what he sounds like.

this is the beginning of the end for the gamecube.
Almost every third party developer has canceled their exclusive-deals with nintendo and only very very few will still be developing for the cube at all.
First capcom, then silicon Knights, then factor 5, hell, even tales of symphonia is being ported now.

Well you wonder why. I mean the sales of GC games compared to XBox and PS2 especially are not as high as developers and publishers want.

Anyways these games look cool. I am exited (see sig)

Yea, but GC...it's like that kid you never really want to admit your friends with. Yet, in fact is your bestfriend.

I havn't got around to playing Viewful Joe. Maybe, I'll go rent it this weekend. Is it me or has Dante been appearing in alot of cameo's?

Sure it does. I mean, I love when a game supports mulitplayer (offline) in any way. It adds to the replay value IMO.

That's what I also liked about Blade Warriors.

Check the trailer at gametrailers.com, it looks awesome. Especially the combo action with the girl.
