Alright here let me give you a quick review of each of those game from my opinion.

1. Empire: It was a great game. Yet, to me it was just a updated of Empire Earth or a 3d Rise of nations. I really didn't care for it. It is though, however the prettiest and newest version of what I call a the Civilization RTS (AOE,Empire Earth, etc.)

2. Sellforce: Nice little game. Cross between a rpg and a RTS. Nice storyline and graphics. Out of the three, I'd get this one. (warcraft meets neverwinter nights)

3. Once upon a Knight: Well It isn't super bad. Is more or less a crap rts. It has a similar style to warcraft 3 in the sense that you get your hero. As well as like in spellforce taking that hero to do a rpg adventure. Yet, everything about it is executed wrong. The graphics are barely passable, the story is not even coherent. I suggest sticking with spellfore.

I also think you should check out Massive Assault. It's pretty nice.

Spellforce is a WC3 clone with a little more rpg and a little less rts. Nothing revolutionary at all. If you dont mind playing clones of games you've already played and beat, then you might as well pick it up.

spellforce is a completely different game when it comes to multiplayer than wc3. Trust me the community is nothing like blizzards.

How about War of the Rings
It is sort of cross between warcraft and battle realms

War of the Rings was nothing special...at all...typically warcraft 3 with semi-different unit models...

This may be a little bit old but try Command And Conquer:Generals Zero Hour with the Progen Mod (Http://www.deezire.net) if you like a fast paced game rather than a empire building one you'll love it

Side note:Licensed games tend to really suck so don't expect any RTS that happens in the wrold of Middle Earth,The Matrix and Star Wars to be any good at all
