This game IS out, it came out today. Yes, the (illegal) rom came out a few days ago, but let's not talk about that. Now that the game IS out legally I see no problem in having a thread devoted to the game.
My impressions of the game? Really good. I've played the original Metroid many times - enough to know where all the stuff should be, but due to the new abilities and weapons at Samus' disposal they had to really rework the map. So much that, despite some familiar scenery and a SIMILAR map and layout, it was basically a new game. Graphics were great - nice background and some really good character animation. Sound was nice too (at least as good as crappy GBA sound can get), some nice rehashes of the original Metroid tunes. The new areas and the bit of added depth and "extra mission" they added in at the end were definitely cool too. The game's bonuses, like the "Hard" mode, Gallery mode (to see the various ending portraits you've earned), and even a playable original Metroid (which allows for battery saves instead of the annoying passwords) are all nice little touches and add a bit of fun. Main problems? Too short, and too easy. I finished the game in just over 3 hours. Also, after Metroid Fusion, which had some cool and actually kinda difficult bosses, I was hoping Zero Mission would have a nice bit of difficulty. The Zero Mission bosses were just a joke - even on the unlockable "Hard" mode. Even if you DID somehow die, savepoints (and Chozo statues) are VERY frequent, and they all totally recharge your energy and weapons (even super missiles and super bombs). Oh well, still a great game, but next time... we want MORE!!

My biggest issue with it is that I didn't activate the roof zip/grapple lines. I got stuck in Kraid after defeating him. pissed me off righteously.

the game was sweet, a little short and the end was never-seen-before-bad, but other then that i'll remember it as an extremly entertaining metroid-expension. i really hope that metroid II will be remade next...
