Very picky DOS game...

I have a very picky DOS game, Tyrian. The only computer I have been able to sucessfully get Tyrian to run on is my piece-o'-junk 486SX/25 laptop running DOS 6.22, and even then I have to have it on low detail and max speed to be playable (no to mention I have to play in black and white, due to the laptop's monochrome screen). I have had it run under win95/98 on other machines in the past, but none of mine.

Does anybody know any way I can get these games to run, either under Win98, WinXP, or an emulator?

I have Tyrian 2000 and it runs on 98, xp has problems with it tho, I think the game is abandonware now, you can download it at abandonware site (underdogs, etc)

Tyrian.. I almost forgot that game. It wouldn't run well or not at all at anything faster than a 486. I think the fastest PC I had it running on was a Pentium 75. Runtime errors. I have Tyrian 2000 somewhere aswell I think... Can someone remind me if it has added content compared to Tyrian v2.0 for DOS?

yeah, tyrian 2000 has a new episode added;

the game might run under dosbox or virtual pc, but I can't confirm it.

You could always throw together a cheap 486 somehow. Flea Markets are good places to look for old 486's for like dirt cheap or even free.

yeah, it should; has issues with (many) pci soundcards though.

Hi all. You might want to try VDMS. It runs Bad Blood from Origins just fine and some old Strategic Simulations Games (like Dungeon Hack) as well. It just might run this old DOS game that you are all talking about. Sadly I do not remember the website for it but I am sure that you could find it on google if you tried.

Well, Tyrian certainly doesn't work with DOSBox. I just tried it and got an error stating 'invalid exe format'. Damn.

Tyrian was the one of the best game I've ever played in DOS, if only I could play it now

well, I also got another DOS game right now in my PC called X-Com2 terror from the deep, very cool game but got a problem when running it on WinXP

I've got version 2.1 at the moment. And, no, I did not download it from a warez site. I purchased it legitimatly.

Good News! Tyrian v2.1 works with the new v0.61 of DOSBox! There seem to be a few speed problems, but at least it works.
