Smile Black Isle Studios goes out with a bang

Hi all. What the title of my thread means is that the last two games from Black Isle Studios are fabulous. The games I am talking about are Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. I purchased Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance II last week when it was first available here where I live. I had preordered it from Game Crazy. This game is just Gorgeous. The backgrounds, the characters, everything. It is truly a credit to Black Isle Studios to have developed such a game. As for Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, it is available at Fry's Electronics and as soon as I can afford it I am going to get it. It looks superb (from the pictures on the box) also. This really says something since I am not interested in the other Fallout games. But I certainly am interested in this one. It is truly a pity that Interplay closed down Black Isle Studios especially after two such wonderful games as these. One simply must wonder what they (Interplay) were thinking at the time. Anyway I just wanted to share this with all of you and I highly recommend that any on you that like Black Isle Studios or these types of games take a look at these two games as soon as possible.

Hi all. Yes Xinu0, Interplay has definately closed Black Isle Studios. For a while there was some question as to whether or not this was actually true or not but now it is definate. Black Isle Studios is closed.
You are welcome for the news though. Yes I would definately recommend that you take a look at these two games as soon as possible.

Yeah, it is pretty sad. Fallout series is my favourite computer RPG. I guess we won't see another Fallout in future. Well, I actually hate that they spent their time on Fallout: BOS instead of making Fallout 3 and I did give BOS a try but no, I don't like it at all.

You guys are absolutely sure? I've heard that those were just rumors and Interplay said Black Isle was still open.

Edit: Oh, I just read cutie's second post. So, you got that from a reliable source? If they did shut down, that sucks.

Interplay is using stupid semantics to help hide the truth. They have one or two workers left from the BIS division, and own the rights to the name. Thus, legally, they can say BIS is still open even though they got rid of everyone :P

I'm really sad that this is the kind of games that Black Isle released for its final game, to quote rpg codex article:

Quote:
But, of course, it was not to be. Any Fallout fan worth his salt really hates Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, known as "FOPOS" or "Fallout: Enforcer" in referece to the action spinoff that killed X-Com. But beyond FOBOS being horrible, there's an extra good reason to hate it:

It killed Fallout 3.
http://www.rpgcodex.com/content.php?id=94

To me the fallout series manages to transform itself from being a wondeful unique rpg series to a mediocre blast and shoot game (yes I unfortunately have tried FOBOS).

Sad news for PC RPG fan frankly

Yes, those who love Fallout for the CRPG it is, hate FOPOS with a passion. I never have and never will try it, because I'm not interested in this tainted game.

Furthermore, the most informative site regarding Fallout, games a-like, rumors/facts/hope around Fallout 3 or something similar, can be found here. It has an excellent FAQ regarding the Van Buren project (Fallout 3), a board where quite some BI members used to frequent, and much much more.

Anyway, this post means I don't think Brotherhood of Steel is fabulous at all. Sorry cutie, but I myself don't think it ended with a bang. More like a dead man's whimper, in my humble opinion. I'm glad atleast someone enjoyed it though.

Smile

Hi all. That is fine if some of you did not like Fallout Brotherhood of Steel like I do. Perhaps I should not have gushed so about it but I am a woman and that seems to come naturally for me sorry.
As for Buldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II I truly feel that it is all that I say it is.
Sampah, Buldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (the first one) is available for Playstation 2, GameCube and X Box but Bauldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II (the second one) is only available for Playstation 2 and X Box. It is not available now and I do not think it will be at all for Game Cube.

I don't see how you being a woman has anything to do with what you said

Anyway, I heard BG: DA2 was pretty good, but it's unlikely that I will play that game aswell. I never played any BG game and never felt like trying so far, hence the lack of interest for this new title. However, I'm glad to hear that the BG fans aren't being disappointed

I have one question regarding Baldur's Gate though. How much of everything that is Baldur's Gate is Black Isle's? I thought Bioware had it's share in it aswell. Excuse my ignorance, if any.

Cool

I know this is an old thread, so please excuse me for reviving it. The reason I did was to mention that I just, a few days ago, got Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. I was putting off getting this game because i did not like the first 2 Fallout games for PC, at all. But I decided to give Fallout: BOS a try since it was on a console. I was surprised when I found out that it plays very much like BG Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance 2 which I throughly enjoy. It is like a futuristic modern version of those games. So I would recommend that for those of you who enjoy BG Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance 2 you consider giving Fallout: BOS a try as well. If you like those games, you are almost certain to like this Fallout as well.
sincerely,

Fallout is still being worked on - though in what capacity I'm not sure. There was some news from Interplay regarding the fact...

Fallout 3 Revived
By Mike Meikle -- News Writer
Published 7:32 PM CDT, April 15, 2004

In a surprise announcement, Interplay's CEO has stated that Fallout 3 will be published.

Herve Caen, CEO of Interplay, announced yesterday that Fallout 3 is on Interplay's publishing radar. This is a very surprising announcement, since the game was all but given its last rights after the shut down of Black Isle Studios.

Mr. Caen stated further that the game is not currently in development, but a third party developer will be picking up the work in the near future. He stated that an announcement will be forthcoming that will further detail the development plans for the game.

Fallout 3 development has been fraught will difficulty. Last year Feargus Urguhart and JE Sawyer, the top folks behind Black Isle and Fallout 3, left the developer. This was followed a few months later with Interplay pulling the plug on Black Isle and Fallout 3's development entirely.
So do not lose heart.

As a side note Fallout: BoS stinks compared to the real Fallouts, Black Isle Studios did NOT work on Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel (14° East & Microforte did) and Black Isle Studios did NOT work on Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (console game, internal interplay team worked on that).

EDIT: Also if you guys like these kinda games check out Champions of Norrath on the PS2. If you think BGA2 looks pretty, you'll be shocked by this one. The textures are something you usually only expect to see on the xbox...it's crazy.

Exclamation

You are correct about Champions of Norrath for the PS2. I have it and it is everything you say it is and more. An excellent game.
As for Fallout: BOS, you all may not like it, but I do and yet I do not care for the original Fallouts at all. Nor Fallout Three when/if it comes if it is done the same as Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.
sincerely,

"Interplay execs also talked about other older games that they are looking to reviving for new games, including Decent, Earthworm Jim and Dark Alliance (which won't have a connection with the Dungeons and Dragons universe due to Atari having the rights to that franchise) and a new Fallout game similiar to the PS2-Xbox title that was released earlier this year). A new Baldur's Gate title is now out of Interplay's hands due to the loss of the D&D license. A revival of Fallout 3 is not currently being worked on but news on that title is expected soon. However, the conference call cautioned that future plans for game will be tied to getting more financing, which they are hopefully they will receive soon."

...The Dark Alliance bit, kinda makes me disappointed. I really can't see a DA game now without it set in the Forgotton Realms. It's what initally brought me to the series. Now, they want to keep the series going by creating a new universe. If they are smart they will change name of the series.

Unhappy

Gosh, i'm feverently hoping that we wil see a release of fallout3. fallout 1 and 2 are probably two of the best games i ever played in my whole life. i mean isn't there a way to
to make Interplay understand that the fallout series actually had a huge following? :akimbo:
