Star Ocean 2 question

Well, I got this game a few days ago, and I've been playing it a bit - I really enjoy it.

I was reading the Strategies section of the RPGClassics SO2 shrine, and they say to try and get Pickpocket early on in the game to get the Mischief item. They also say that to get pickpocket, you need Dexterity... and my Claude doesn't have it.

I don't want to restart the game, as I've invested 3 hours leveling up. I could get back to where I am in 2 hours, but that's still 2 hours I don't want to spend. So, my question: do I _have_ to have Dexterity to get pickpocket, and if so, is there anything I can practice to make Claude learn it?

Right now, I'm at the point right after Cross Cave. I'm at Mars leveling up in the Forest.

I finished Star Ocean 2 a long time ago, and I never got this Mischief thing :P trust me, you're fine without it.

for pickpocket, you need dexterity, and some good thief's gloves to do a "successful" steal....
to learn dexterity for others, you need a book IIRC...

Mischief looks unimportant to me....

Might be important for "private actions"...

There are things that are better to look at, like Creating the "Eternal Sphere"...
well, Because "Demon Sword Levantine" will be an a$$ to find IMO (took me well over a year)...

you still have time to pickpocket mischief, i dont think you get to pickpocket it until like a quarter of the way through the game. 3 hours is not a quarter of the way through. Just get his dexterity up, you have plenty of time to do so.

don't worry about pickpocketing. it won't be worth the trouble, not to mention the fact that you fail a lot. you're better off just playing through the game normally and hacking it later.
oops. hacking? oh, i mean... okay, yeah, i did mean hacking.

like i said, don't worry about pickpocketing. i had dexterity on claude, and fought the many battles to raise enough money for the thief gloves (which increased my levels a lot as well) and i STILL couldn't pick any pockets. just hack it later if you really need all those items. you're not above cheating, are you?

one thing to watch out for though, if you're going to have Precis join your group, make sure you have ashton or you won't get her strongest move. actually... its been so long, i'm not even sure if those were the 2 people who affected each other, but there is someone in there that depends on someone else.

i never played the game with ernest, but it would make sense if him and opera had some kind of special moves together. also, i dont remember, but dont you need mischief to get the final boss's limiter off? I forgot the procedure for that, but if you want the end boss to be challenging, you need to get the limiter off, otherwise a good party wont even need to heal to beat him.

You do not need dexterity to pickpocket, however the helps alot. And I thought Mischief gave you a random I item, I think I got a sword from it once...

PS- Pickpocketing makes your party members think less of that charecter(useful for altering the endings of the game), so do it wile in Private Actions(plus you can pickpocket your allies in PA's

)

PSS- The boss's limiter can be turned off by first doing the PA at Clik(the one where you get the Mischief), then saving at the VERY last save point (RIGHT befor the boss) and finally meeting the chick you got the Mischief from at Central City. Please note that this makes the end Boss ****ING IMPOSSABLE to beat (however, very fun:P)

PSSS(damn I love this game)- Because of the Boss being so powerful, go to the Cave of Trials to get items and exp.

Mischief gives crappy items. Fortune does the same thing, but gives better items. IMO Mischief is pointless.

mischief... i don't remember that, i wonder if i fought it. but what who that angel thing you get to fight? i can't remember. and no, its not earnest and opera that get the extra skill (although it would make sense), i know it has something to do with ashton.

BTW, I'm a level-up freak... I've spent 11 hours on the game and have all my party members at lvl 34... and I've just now finished saving the kids of Mars. I laughed when I finished the first battle with the bandits and Celine said something to the effect of :my, they're strong", seeing as I killed them in one hit. :P

Ashton OWNS!! His double attack does MASSIVE dmg. Plus he can use the 2 best swords. Not to mention he's a very funny character.

For me, Opera..
And there is a skill of hers that her level is somewhat a multiple of the number of shots....
At high levels, imagine how much damage it can do....
(very helpful for the cave of trials, although i cheated on that one.. (fell down to level 9?))

Somehow i didnt get Ernest...

i'd take ashton, simply because if you take that character that depends on his being there. skill wise, opera is probably better.

I'd still take Opera IMO...

Although i forgot "Hyper Launcher", which is more powerful than "Alpha on One" (Alpha on one hits 5+ on regular damage)...

If you wanna get everything out of a game like this, chose a set of charecters to get with Claude, then replay with Rena and get the set you missed (If you chose to get Ashton wiht Rena, you will get Deis later and can OWN with a Claude, Ashton, Deis, Rena party).

My suggestion if you plan on playing only once, get Ashton now, he's badass. But if you want Opera, dont forget about the PA's you have to do to get her!
