Post Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

-data-
Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts, Radical Games, Fox Entertainment and Fox Interactive, such that The Simpsons Road Rage has deliberately copy and imitate Sega's Crazy Taxi games. Sega claimed they hold the U.S. patent on Crazy Taxi, have they have requested the court to stop the sales and import of the game.

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

Yeah, some of those games feel just like crazy taxi, it's almost like they use the same engine has CT. CT has got to be one of the better sega games, and nobody should copy it

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

This is lame, based on such thing Capcom and SNK should file each other for their fighting games, Square could sue at least 50% of the RPGs out there and so on... even Sega took some concepts from other companies...

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

well, maybe they don't see enough difference between the 2 games. capcom and snk fighters play differently and rpgs are a genre... but yeah, it is a load of crap. bad sega.

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

I disagree, some of the KoF games show heavily influence by Capcom titles... same goes for some of the RPGs out there (not necessarily compared to FF games, but yes to Square titles)... the thing is, there's always a sort of basis for a genre. It's not bad to follow it (yes to carbon-copy it), at least not bad enough to sue someone...

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

maybe sega is just a little paranoid that the things they are offering in their game development comeback might be stolen. besides, its fox. we all know they're evil.

In their review for the game, Gamespot cited the simpsons game as "Crazy Taxi in Springfield"...
I myself have not played both games(played CT).

Business.......

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

I cannot give an appropriate opinion, since I never played this Simpsons game, but so far I agree with Kaiser Sigma's opinion.

It looks like some desperate measure taken by Sega

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

Well considering I played both, I can honestly say that Simpsons Road Rage is a direct copy of Crazy Taxi with Simpsons characters and a vs mode. That's all there is too it.

Hit and Run is essentialy Simpsons: GTA, and I'm sure Rockstar are going to have words on that.

Whoa there. How exactly do you patent a game? That is just plain dumb.

Re: Sega of America has filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts

If someones uses your idea and you patent it, then you should get a piece of the profit. its that simple. Though it does look desperate by Sega's part.

Yeah, cause Mafia is better than GTA in every way, story, gfx, interest, EVERYTHING ! And it doesn't really play like GTA anyway.

That's nothing, the creators of Pitfall could sue every single company on the world who made a platform game
