Petition to make Xbox2 backwards compatible

Everybody has read it,
Xbox2 will have a ibm proc and alot of changes...

when you wanne play xbox 1 games on your xbox 2 it will not be possible..
so yust buy a new xbox console and new games with a xbox 2...
its yust likes win98 vs xp..

they'll never make it backwards compatible. as chrono said, they are far too greedy to do that. if anything, they are going to try to make it the center of your media life and have it cost 500+

well, this is ridiculous. do you expect them to make it backwards compatible because their name is ms? ps2 and gba are the only current ones that are backwards compatible. Really, if my DC could play Saturn games, and the GCN could play N64 games, maybe you'd have gotten a point.

i never said the other companies like Nintendo and Sony are not greedy. Making new consoles backward compatible can be a good way to amke people buy the console but then again some money is lost... I was just saying that Microsoft has a tendancy to be the leader in everything they put their hands in. All they want is $$$ and making their system bw compatible will only make them love money at some extent, so i doubt they would do it. Nintendo never made a console bw compatible (except for GBA) and i dont think either they will start. It<s just they dont seem like a company that wouldnt do it because there afraid to lose money.

ive heard somewhere, on these boards i think, that PS3 is going to be backwards compatible with PS2/PSX , but PS4 will not. of course thats all speculation, who knows whats gonna happen in 10+ years when the PS4 (or whatever it's called) will come out

It has nothing to do with Microsoft "wanting" to make it backwards Compatible. They "cant" because they cant include the same hardware due to problems with Nvidia,.

Do you people actually understand how it works are you just including standard Microsoft hatred rhetoric? Want someone to blame. Blame Nvidia.

argh...we were trying to save some of this for our article "Rumor Roundup" section of our website...bah...

You can't simply blame nVidia alone...if your going to blame folks you may as well include Intel. ...You see Xbox 2...or Xbox Next..or whatever they finally call it..will sport an IBM PowerPC type chip, and a chip designed by ATI, but manufactuered by M$ in house. (they will pay licensing fees, but not manufactuering costs like they paid to nVidia...basically the same deal that Nintendo has going).

The two different chips will make backwards compatibility difficult..if not impossible.

On a side note it has been stated by big Sony pres Kusanagi that they will try to continue legacy support for all Playstation systems. PS2 on PS3 has been confirmed...but only PS1 support is assumed..It is a safe guess though.

No one is to blame in the incompatibility between Xbox 2 and Xbox games, the 2 systems will have a hugely different design, that's the only reason, blame the guys at MS for making a choice, but I won't, it's THEIR choice, and you can bet it's a well thought one (at least, money wise).

In order for backwards compatibility to occur, it would need to sport the Xbox chips in it as well. Which would make the console absurdly large. Because it still requires the Celeron chipset/motherboard Nvidia combo

It would be extreamly easy *if* m$ used an x-86 based cpu. the motherboard wouldnt have to be nvidia. As we all know, sis is producing the motherboard - nothing is stopping m$ from choosing sis and AMD for example.

Remember the xbox is basically a pc - it uses a celeron, and it is well know that you can even replace that celeron with a 1.4ghz version and it'll work fine. The only thing that makes the xbox unique is the operating system, im sure m$ would have no problem emulating that since they designed it in the first place...both the kernel (which is based on win NT) and it's own version of Direct X.

All they need to do, is go X-86. that'll give them all they need to be backwards compatible.

Microsoft Xbox Hardware Development (www.xbox.com) has yet to decide if they are going to make the Xbox2* backwards compatible with existing Xbox games for the Xbox(1), this petition is a request to Microsoft to make the next Xbox play the Xbox games of today.
