Yeah, this game is fun, and highly addictive.

I started playing this week, still didn't get anything for my avatar, but I'm slowly learning the mobiles and improving my aim.

what's the origin of this game? i know the concept is very old, but have no idea what's it's called.

sharing my 2c.: use turtle, secondary weapon, close range, double hit. it hits *a lot*

You know, that's a very good question.
There are a few references to Scorched Earth (http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/p,2/gameId,402/), but I'm quite sure it wasn't the first. Some people named an Amiga game called "Tanks", but I cannot find more info on it.

I mentioned Worms because they started the team idea, as well as a few other innovations. Plus they have the biggest fan base. They recently released Worms 3D, which is another break thru (pardon the pun).
