Question The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

Hello
I am thinking of buying a new PC but i want one so that i can play PSX games on it with everything maxed out and still have it run perfectly. Do you know which is the most graphic intense game and what are the requirements for it?
I'd like to run N64 games maxed out too.
thanks all

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

Even the most graphically intense games, with all the bells and whistles (best textures, best colors, , high resolution, screen smoothing, 2xSaI, FSAA, etc etc) should be easily handled with a good new system. My system (Athlon 2100+ XP plus, 512 RAM, GeForce3 Ti500 64MB) can play everything with no problems. The only thing that can lower the FPS below 60 is some weird PSX effects that need Full VRAM Primitives (FVP) enabled, especially if 4xFSAA is also enabled. But if you have a 2Ghz or better processor, and a GeForce3 or Radeon 8500 or higher with 128 or more MB VRAM (and if you get a new system now, you really SHOULD get AT LEAST that) , you'll probably never encounter any problems.

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

the only game i remember losing quite a bit of fps was the final battle in vagrant story. but, then again, i don't have much of a system to really compare to. like rhombus said, unless you put on some strange graphic settings, you won't have any problem with playing the games.

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

I think I had some very minor issues on my previous comp. (p3 800 /w gf4mx) but they're all gone since I upgraded AFAIK. FSAA is no problem anymore either.

there's a way to make things slow though: running games in software mode on 1280x1024; but you're not gonna do that very often

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

Most psx games should run reasonably well on any system given the right configuration. But if you wanted to max out all the options in epsxe and your graphics card, then you might need a high end system.

MAX options(2xsal) + Very Heavy Framebuffer effects + high resolutions(>1024x768) + Max FSAA can bring some high end systems to their knees. One psx game in particular that uses very heavy Framebuffer effects is Metal Gear Solid. That's the game I use to test framebuffer speed on my system.

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

thanx a lot. I am planning on getting P4 2.4 or 2.6 800Mhz FPS with a card like a Geforce FX 5200 or 5600 ( think the latter will be it) maybe like 520MB of ram.
how does that sound?
anyways what about the most graphic intense settings for N64 emulation?
I'd like to play halo too but i think what i am getting will do right?

Sounds good to me...

Probably Perfect Dark or Goldeneye, especially in multiplayer, the framerate takes a dive even middle-end systems.

You'll be better off with the 5600 if you want to run it above 1024 X 768. Other than that, graphics cards matter less for N64 emulation than say PSX emulation (eg. Pete's OpenGL 2 is the most sophisticated GPU plugin I've seen and makes use of the newest cards for filtering).

P4 2.4GHz is sufficient but obviously the faster the better, as you may want to use a slower ( but better visual quality) plugin like glN64() or Rice's Daedalus (that have 2XSAI) instead of Jabo's (which runs fullspeed on a slower processor). You need over 1.2GHz really to get a good experience with PJ64, so 2.4+ covers it.

Smile Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

One of the most intense games I know of for the PSX is Gauntlet Legends. If you don't have a strong enough system, it takes forever to load the screens. Plus, if your system is not strong enough, your FPS will fluctuate wildly making it almost impossible to play the game. This is the game I use for testing purposes.
My system handles it w/ease.
sincerely,

Re: The most graphic intense game for EPSXE

Chrono Cross is very graphics intensive, this is evident on the actual console itself - there's a lot of slowdown and frame skipping.

I have this same processor, and It eliminated all FPS slowdowns with my graphical intense games (Chrono Cross, FF9, etc.), even though I kept my crappy GeForce 3 Ti200 32MB. If you are upgrading your pc for just the PSX, you can probably keep your original card (assuming its not too crappy) and wait later to get a good card when the prices go down.

Edit: It also eliminated my slowdown issues with Zelda Majora's Mask, and other N64 games too.

Well that's cool.
so all ur PSX and N64 games run at 60FPS max out?
I have a choice of getting a 2.6 with a geforce Fx 5200
how does that sound? and what about halo for that too (for those who already have it

Are you asking about Halo PC or Halo Xbox?

PE2's compatibility problems were fixed with recent released versions of psx emulators.

They run at 80FPS maxed out (the PSX at least), and there are no slowdown issues, even on fancy parts like kuja's spells at the end of FF9. Though from what I understand, there might be some vertex pipeline shaders or something on new cards that my card doesn't have that will increase graphical quality.

Edit: There may have been some slowdowns with the V-Software drawing thing on, but I can't remeber if that was before I got the 2.6 processor.

Did you mean either a 2.6 OR a Fx5200? If so, the card might be cheaper, as you will have to buy a new mobo and power supply for the processor.

I think MaxPayne2 looks better and it performs a heck of a lot better than Halo as well.
