XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
Hi people.I need help big time.I got two TVs here,A 62" Sony Wega Multisystem TV and a 29" Sharp PAL TV.Now the 62" developed a problem recently recently. My XBOX is an NTSC/PAL type.I have to use my 29" TV for the period I'm repairing the other TV.Now,anytime I play an NTSC game on my PAL TV,the image starts to shake. But when I play a PAL game on the TV,the image is okay. Now most of my games are NTSC which means that for now,I can't play most of them.I was wondering if anyone knows how I can make an NTSC CD look like a PAL CD so the image becomes steady on my PAL TV.Thanks.

Re: XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
When you say the screen shakes what exactlly do you mean, if the picure appears as rolling bars or the colour is black and white then your TV just isnt ntsc compatible and unless the X-box gives you an option to change to 50hz (ntsc is 60hz) then theres nothing you can do except buy some hardware that plugs in between the x-box and the tv which is possibly what Recca is talking about. My gamecube lets me output games at 50hz/60hz so maybe the x-box has a similar option. |

Re: XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
I don't think that the Xbox has the same feature as the GCN JAZ. Im talking about a cable that lets you display 60hz game on your 50hz TV. THE RGB cable is what you need. You can get it here. www.lik-sang.com However, though im almost positiv that thats the problem. I may be wrong so don't hang me out on it if im wrong as i will NOT pay you back if it doesn't work. Try asking your friends or local games, electronical shops to see if they have it. |

Re: XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
It seems Recca has the superior knowledge X-box rgb That rgb cable states in its faq that is does indeed allow ntsc to be correctlly displayed on a pal TV. Quote:

Re: XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
I was curious as to whether it is possible to make an NTSC CD look like a PAL CD.For example,Celine Dion's A New Day Has Come album does not allowing for copying. But if you use s black felt pen and cover the outermost rim of the CD, you can now copy it.Is such a thing possible in this PAL/NTSC situation?

Re: XBOX/PAL TV/NTSC Problem
Boot discs are not avaible for PS2 and Xbox, only GCN. So that would be impossible. Also, converting PALtoNTSC and vice versa is also impossible.

50/60 Hz is not the only issue between PAL and NTSC. PAL is 625 lines of resolution, where NTSC is 525 lines. Also the color processing is different, thereby giving b/w images on a PAL TV when fed by a device in NTSC mode. If we in the US feed a PAL device into an NTSC TV, we get color bleeding and rolling bands of color on the screen. This is regardless of using Composite, RGB, or S-VIDEO. The only differences between those 3 types of connections is how the signals are combined to go into wires, then separated at the TV. RGB (aka Y, R-Y, B-Y) is best because is has 2 individual chroma and 1 luminance signals (which the 3rd color is derived from). S-VIDEO is second best as all chroma is combined in 1 wire, and the luminance is in another wire. Composite is the worst because the luminance and chroma are combined, which can never cleanly be 100% re-separated, though still looks cleaner than an RF modulated composite signal (antenna input/output). Now VGA is basically higher resolution RGB, more scan lines high and more pixels across. Converters ARE available to put inline between your NTSC device and PAL TV and visa-versa, which would fix some of your size clipping problems as well as your B/W issue. |
