Day of Defeat Problem

My friend is having problems with DoD ...maybe other half-life mods too...but whenever he trys to join he game he says it tells him he is banned from all secure servers for cheating until the year 2008...he has never cheated on any half-life mods...we tryed changing his name and ip address...and we are wandering what might have happened or if there's a way to fix it...
