What are your favorite shooting (Raiden-like) games?

mine would be Soukyugurentai. i'm hoping to play this game again on Saturn emulators one day.
by the way, what would be the appropriate category name for this type of game? a lot of gaming sites put them as 'actions' or 'shooting', but that's kinda broad.

Last shooting game I ever played was duck hunt... i think i once managed to get to level 50 or so...... anyone else here thinks that the best games ever were the ones from the 80's

....aahhh... shmups.... certainly a favorite gaming genre among many of us.

The problem is that there are just so many, that it's impossible for me to pick only one as a favorite, so for nostalgia's sake -only- I'll just give credit (excuse the pun ) to "Galaxian" - the first shoot'em up I played (also the first arcade game I played, sometime between '79 and '80).

Actually, there were other shmups in the room too, (I vividly remember Space Invaders & Astro Fighter), but I played Galaxian first, because it was more "colorful".

Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius: Forever with Me is another one of my favorites. It has the upgrading capability quite similar to that of Gradius. speaking of which, Gradius 5 looks quite promising.

I have to give my respects to the game that started this category, Space Invaders.

Shouldn't this topic be in the Game Discussion?

Re: What are your favorite shooting (Raiden-like) games?

Meh, I LOVE this type of game. 1941 (cps arcade), Aero Fighters 3 and Pulstar (neo geo arcade) are my favorites!!!
But the first one I've ever played was Tyrian (PCs, from Epic Megagames)!

Re: What are your favorite shooting (Raiden-like) games?

i've only played two thoroughly: einhander and zero wing. and i only played zero wing hoping there'd be an ending as entertaining as the intro.

raptor/demonstar were fun! (I like raptor better tho...)

other than that... Ikaruga is the only one I really played. Like the demo for einhander tho.

Re: What are your favorite shooting (Raiden-like) games?

I see mentions for Space Invaders and Galaxian. Understandably for being the firsts.

But I'd have to go with Galaga. It is still the most fun, for me anyway. Now that I don't play a lot of games on my Gameboy Color, I have had the Galaga & Galaxian cartridge inserted in it for many months, fired up (get it?) every once in a while. I like it more than Tetris.
