Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video

U MUST SEE THIS VIDEO (IF U CAN)

A new Half-Life 2 tech movie has been released, offering more footage from this upcoming FPS sequel by Valve Software. Today's movie shows no action, but a walk through a level and on rooftops shows off the new shiny effects that DX9 rendering has lent to Half-Life 2. Like all the previous movies, this one is in self-running BINK format and runs for around 2:18 minutes. Half-Life 2 is due to be released on November 19th 2003.

Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video (114.9 MB)

More ways to die. More reasons to live.

1998: Half-Life sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debut title wins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PC Game Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight million retail units sold worldwide.

Now: Half-Life 2.

By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors ? even the emotions ? of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people ? people he cares about ? are counting on him.

I just saw this video and the lighting effects are beautiful. Curse NVidia and their sub-par DirectX 9.0 support!!!

Re: Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video

ok well maybe my definitions of "similar" are a little different. i think that a 2.4 ghz P4 can be classified as similar to my 2.66 (by the way mine isnt HT). since the the 2600+ is a 2.3 ghz processor (i think? i could be wrong) i think that we have "similar" processors

Re: Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video

The XP 2600+ runs at 2.13 Ghz and performs similar, if not same as the P4 2.6 Ghz. As for gaming performance in Half-Life 2 I wouldn't expect anything big. Your videocard will hold you back, as the FX cards lack shader processing power. You may be able to run at lower resolutions though, and I assume it'll at least be playable at 640x480.

Or they can do DX 8.1 which still has good lighting effects, Just not as precise.

Re: Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video

some people are taking this benchmark far way off ( anyone with older cards can play hl 2 on dx.8 mode ) sure you'll lose those fancy nifty shading and pixel effects, the game being playable is at first the most imiportant aspect ( i turned off the shaders effects in morrow wind and it did'nt bothered me at all)

it's like bragging how your 800 dpi mouse is way better than a 600 dpi

Re: Half-Life 2 Directx9.0 Effects Video

I just saw the video and I am amazed. I thought I was watching the FF movie or something. I didn't know modern gfx cards were capable of gfx like that. So the shininess is the work of the pixel shaders?
