Grand Theft Auto kills again...

Take-Two is potentially facing a lawsuit (again) because a couple of kids "opened fire on vehicles on the Interstate 40 highway in Tennessee with a .22 calibre rifle, killing one person and injuring another severely." After being apprehended, they said that they "were bored, and decided to mimick their favourite videogame, Grand Theft Auto." Full article is here .

Now, I've never really cared that much for GTA games, so I'm not like an uber fan or anything... But for these kids to blame thier actions on a videogame is downright wrong. I'm curious as to what you guys have to say about this...

hmm... weird news post but anyways... it's the smartest way to get out of trouble... blame someone else... that's one thing that always works right... even with religion

...two things:

1) there will always be stupid people to blame videogames as responsible for (even their own) violent/psychotic behavior... and there will always be people stupid enough to believe them.

2) this should be in open discussion.

Sorry I posted in the wrong section, I don't want to incur the wrath of the Great Ones . But anyhow...

Yeah screw that, they say GTA encouraged them to do that, when it's obvious that those kids were going to kill people regardless. They could have said the same thing about a movie or what they saw on TV.

I agree that the game is stupid, full of repetetive missions and gameplay (Kinda like State of Emergency). But, you have to admit, GTA3/VC have thier moments...

The sale of these types of games is restricted to minors, so it's not really Take-Two's responsibility. (That's my opinion anyways)

well if the kids trick succeded that really gives me lovely ideas (killing or may be burning some ppl that i do think they should with my rocket launcher ) and when the police came i'd say oops i was trying to mimic my quake 3 game i was playing yesterday then they 'll just say : well ok but don't play that game again it's too violent .

Stupid violent acts take place all over the world. However because of the political correctness, the state of the legal system and the fear and power of litigation in the US, these moronic boneheads have a complete unjustified, yet viable way out. It's sickening.

It's just that I've seen a tendency of these facts happening in the US, that's all.

Re: Grand Theft Auto kills again...

Its just like saying fps'ers make kids more agressive. That is only true if the kid isnt mature enough to understand the game. There are warning and ****, so its not the kid's fault as much as their parents.

Top 6 scapegoats we blame our children's actions on:
1.)Parents
2.)peer pressure
3.)Music
4.)TV and movies
5.)videogames
6.)the environment they were raised in
