Take a trip back to the day of bbs door games!

This thread is meant to be a formal invitation to all NGEmu users. You are invited to join my BBS and participate in the many multiplayer door games I have up and running. If you enjoyed the early days of dialing into BBSes and enjoying such classics as LORD and Usurper with others, than this is for you. Even if you've never tried a BBS and possibly wish to try something new, this is for you.

There are currently 32 members registered and I'm looking forward to increasing that number to make the games more exciting. You'll notice many familiar faces there, such as Raziel, CKemu, Eface, Snake785, Kid A, LanGaidin, jegHegy, and myself. I noticed even Xeven and asadr had signed up.

The experience you'll have is difficult to predict and dependent on which games you choose to participate in. By far, our most popular and active game is Legend of the Red Dragon (LORD). LORD, which I've taken the liberty of registering for our users, is a multiplayer RPG text adventure (w/ ANSI graphics) that takes place in a medieval atmosphere. Your character is on a lengthy quest to defeat the legendary Red Dragon who has been plaguing the lands and making life miserable for many. You are given so many battles per day, where you fight creatures to increase your stats, experience, and your wallet. Aside from that, you have the option of [H]earing from Seth Able the bard, [F]lirting with Violet the seductive barmaid, or even [S]laughtering some of the other players. Go visit "[O]ther Places" and enjoy some of the IGMs that I've installed. Whatever you choose to do, be assured that you will enjoy your time playing the game. Don't worry if you have an unfortunate first day. Press on and try the next day where you'll be revived and be given another chance.

Among the other games that are online, you might enjoy:
* DoorMUD - A multiplayer RPG in the MUD style.

* Usurper - Very similar to LORD but much much more elaborate. Players can choose to either be good or evil in an everlasting endeavor to become immortal.

* Evangelist War - Said to be one of the funniest games of all time.

* PIMP Wars - It's all in the title.

There are currently only 5 nodes online at the moment, but that's suited us quite well at the present time. As demand rises, I may add more nodes. So, don't be discouraged if all nodes are busy when you first try.

Though currently not in full swing, the BBS server is linked to a Usenet, SMTP, POP3, and FTP server. Upon signing up, you will be given your own @flaretech.net POP3 email address. The Usenet server is linked to the message boards on the BBS which aren't really utilized yet, but with time will become geared for emulation, game, computer-related, etc discussion. The FTP server is disabled atm, but will potentially become linked to file areas of the BBS.

If you're not a text-based kind of person, the BBS fully supports RIPscrip graphics and auto detects RIPscrip clients. RIP enables a point-and-click interface with the BBS and full-color vector graphics become possible. Some games, such as LORD (press 2 after entering the game) even support this interface. If you're interested, do a google search for a telnet client called RIPTel.

Otherwise, you can just use the built-in Windows telnet client and point it at flaretech.net.

Hope to see you there.

Re: Take a trip back to the day of bbs door games!

No problem.
I just hope more people decide to try it out in order to keep the game exciting. I forgot to mention that I'd been working on getting some realtime stats going on my website. It's not what I'd consider complete, but it's usable. LORD daily events can be found at http://www.flaretech.net/lognow.htm Yesterdays events can be found at http://www.flaretech.net/logold.htm and a ranking of the current players is at http://www.flaretech.net/lordrank.htm
