Re: F-Zero VS WipeOut

Well I played wipeout a little and it was fun and had great level design but I've played f-zero a lot more. Argh I can't decide The next poll should be some random racing game vs indy 500 for the atari 2600 .
edit: I voted for f-zero.

I always likes F-Zero. I talked my cousin into getting F-Zero GX for the GC.

Re: F-Zero VS WipeOut

From how the game looks I would buy a GC JUST for that game. I wish they would make a pc version (unlikely) or a ps2 version (never gonna happen). I just hope sega does a good job with it.

Re: F-Zero VS WipeOut

Definitely F-Zero. It's always exciting having 30 racers on the track, going 700+ kph. And the GC version looks stunning, I'd love to see that in motion.

Neither. They both are pathetic next to the immortal Hi-Octane, which I really should add in there.

Re: F-Zero VS WipeOut

F-Zero all the way, WipeOut is just a slow wanna be that can't keep up. Even the SNES games play faster.

go ahead and add that if you want.
Wipeout gets no votes so far, anyway.
I was considering putting in Star Wars Racer (which has a sequel), but I don't think that'd get any votes either

it got one from me

my fav. futuristic racers are dethkarz and even more motorhead, but especially the latter resembles more a normal racer than a futuristic one.

Re: Favourite Futuristic Racer?

hmm, i also remember playing a demo of a game called pod once, was pretty cool at the time, E1 pod racer was also good, but a little weird, wipeout was a very good game for its time though so ill vote for it, my favourite racing games of all time would still be carmageddon 2 and death rally though

Re: Favourite Futuristic Racer?

carmageddon is not a racing game; it's a "drive people over" game. ;P

it's a disgrace to racing games even.

Re: Favourite Futuristic Racer?

its still a racing game because of the possibility of racing laps to win and it aint a disgrace, all other racing games are a disgrace next to it

oh puhleaaaze

1) the car handling is terrible
2) the graphics are ugly
3) the main objective doesnt have anything to do with racing

Re: Favourite Futuristic Racer?

1) the car handling is fun (sides, i can name several racing games with unrealistic driving)
2) the graphics were good for the time, and are still fun to play with, if you take into acct the year it was made the graphics were awesome
3) true, but there is no "car killer" genre in the gaming industry, and action/racing would be the closest thing to it

i don't mean unrealistic/realistic....I mean fun...it were not fun. just crappy. Red skidmarks don't have anything to do with car handling

nah. wasn't looking all that good, even then.

if you want to trash stuff, at least play destruction derby. it's politically slightly more correct , and has the gameplay AND the graphics.

(btw, did anyone here every play destruction derby RAW?)

Come on, give Carmageddon a chance.
Its only problem was the immorality. Once you see pass that, the game itself is superior and unique in a lot of ways.
No, it isn't a racing game in terms of driving around a course as fast as you can. It is however a stunt type driving game. Here's my desciption.
  • Your goal is finishing the course before time runs out, or destroy all the other cars in the race, or hit ALL "moving targets".
  • Hitting "moving targets" gives you more time and money (used to repair car).
  • Game over when time runs out or car damaged too much.
  • "moving targets" and other powerups are all over the maps. You're free to explore the area as long as you go thru the checkpoints in order.
That's just a summary anyway. The game is even more involving than that may sound. It is unfortunate that the killing part is understandably discomforting for many audiences.
