Re: best old dos game

Try out some LucasArts Adventures (Monkey Island I+II, Sam&Max, Day of the Tentacle...) for sure.

If you like Jump'n'Runs, I'd suggest the Commander Keen series (especially the "Goodbye Galaxy" part).

The old trusty Transport Tycoon and Syndicate... Oh, and of course, Day of the Tentacle...

Re: best old dos game

Curse of Monkey Island is a Win9x game. I don't believe that this will run on a 486 PC.

Re: best old dos game

It's all about the Ultima. Ultima 6 and 7 should run well on a 486. The Sierra adventure series are also great... King's Quest 5 and 6 were 486'ers... as well as Quest for Glory 1-3.

- Transport Tycoon
- Titus
- Prehistoric
- Railroad tycoon
- Sid Meier's Civilization
- Sid Meier's Pirates
- Jazz Jackrabbit??
- MDK/Fallout (it's dos games, but i doubt they will run on your 486)

My bad I meant The Secret of Monkey Island, the very first installment of the saga... Le Chuck's Revenge was good but nowhere as good as the first one, same goes for The Curse of MI... nothing beats the original

Re: best old dos game

How about some FPS games? Hexen, Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior are all good and should run well. I believe SimCity 2000 is also a DOS game.

And so is Quake, although I doubt he could run it well with his 486.

Re: best old dos game

In the FPS genre I always liked Heretic and Hexen... I'm a big fan of the medieval fantasy setting

Oh yeah, Ultima's 1-7 are all great games, as well as the Might and Magic series and Wizardry as well. But my favorite's are Dungeon Master and Dungeon Master 2 - The Legend of Skullkeep.
